We booked via Klook and the total experience lasted for around 1 hour, circa £40 for 2 pax.
The room is small and nearby a busy main road. But during the tea ceremony the decor and actions were genuinely very relaxing.
The experience is quite short and not extremely detailed in terms of content. You will learn at a high level about the history of the tea ceremony, who attended, how to appreciate the tea bowl designs and other important cultural aspects like hosts Vs guests. Then you will eat a Japanese confectionary before preparing your own tea.
There is opportunity at the end to buy matcha powder or a chasen (tea whisk). They do not force you to buy or hard sell, so it's not awkward to decline.
You will leave knowing more about the Japanese tea ceremony than 95% of other people in the world. But again, this is only brief and high level information that scratches just the surface of what is clearly steeped (lol) in history, culture and traditions.
The staff are lovely. Very kind and good English. They also provided their information in English and French to help tourists understand what they are discussing via print outs.
Overall, an interesting experience if you are in the area. We wore rented kimonos...
Read moreWe attended a tea ceremony earlier this week. Yuki-san snd Akiko-san took very good care of us. It was fascinating to hear about the history of matcha tea, the philosophy behind its preparation, and to see the proper way it is made. A small sweet treat is traditionally served with the tea, and each month has its own special confections. It was also fun to prepare the tea ourselves. There were 12 of us in total, so the size of the group presented its own challenges. Unfortunately, the utensils and equipment were arranged in such a way that Yuki-san had to turn her back to a few participants, which made it dufficult for them to see the process clearly. Nevertheless, we were happy that we could all stay together in the same room, instead of being split into two groups (6+6) as we were originally told. Before makong the reservation, I used the chat service, and it worked very well. I received answers to my questions immediately. I was also provided with a payment link, which was easy to use. A very efficient and well-functioning system. Everyone was very pleased and deeply impressed by the experience. Yuki-san and Akiko-san truly deserve our...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of attending a traditional tea ceremony, and it was nothing short of enchanting. From the moment I stepped into the serene tea room, I was enveloped in a sense of calm and mindfulness. The meticulous preparation of the tea, with each movement executed with grace and intention, was a beautiful reminder of the art of simplicity and presence.
The host guided us through the ritual with warmth and patience, explaining the significance behind each step. The aroma of the freshly brewed tea was intoxicating, and the first sip was a revelation—rich, earthy, and full of depth. It was not just about the tea; it was about the entire experience—the quiet contemplation, the delicate aesthetics of the setting, and the connection with the other participants.
Overall, the tea ceremony was a delightful journey into a world of tranquility and culture. I left feeling rejuvenated and with a newfound appreciation for the art of tea. I highly recommend this experience to anyone seeking a moment of peace in...
