Pretty decent Japanese Indian cuisine to satisfy my crave. In spite of its somewhat unwarranted reputation, Japanese Indian cuisine has evolved to have its own unique dishes, style of serving, and charm that are very hard to find outside Japan.
The cheery lady proprietress (maybe the owner's wife?) was friendly and attentive. Like most Japanese Indian eateries, takeout is also possible option, which is much appreciated. Surprised to see they also offer relatively non-conventional Indian dishes not commonly found in Japan such as medu vadai and dosai from Tamil Nadu state.
Settled with the naan set with two curries (1400 yen). The naan was served warm and fresh, but not piping hot - perhaps it initially was but was cooled on the way as the eatery was located at some distance from my accommodation. Read moreWe happened to find this restaurant for lunch while we were returning from a visit to Asakusa and nearing our end of Japan Trip.
And we are so glad we did!
The staff was really courteous and really made us feel as home. They spiced up things on request. They specially prepared kadhai paneer on request as we are vegetarians. It was a perfect combination of spice with just the right levels of oil.
We started with butter nan, chana masala, kadhai paneer, Jira Rice and Vegetarian Biryani. I really have to say this out loud - their BIRYANI IS THE BEST I've tasted in a long time. Heck it's even difficult to find that kinda biryani in India - so must try.
Its a true Indian restaurant which the locals seems to realise as well going by the queues for both lunch and dinner. Got a take out packed for dinner as well.
Highly recommended - A...
Read moreAs much as I see everyone raving about this restaurant, I would give it a very average rating. More like 2.5 than 3. Reason is that their curries have a slight sweetish taste designed for the Japanese crowd. The tandoori chicken had a smoky outside flavor which was good until I bit into the chicken and found the inside too dry and hard. The staff is not very friendly. Most India restaurants staff in Tokyo become very excited when they hear someone speak Hindi, but this staff is probably Nepali and even then was not at all thrilled. So, comparing to other places in Chuo-ku, Koto-ku, this restaurant has a little more to learn in...
