Read moreI saw this place on YouTube and decided to drop by for a meal on a rainy night. The shop was ran by just 2 person. One FOH and one Chef. The shop has a really humble shop front with no shenanigans. When you enter, a bald yet friendly ojisan greets you and offered us to the seat at the counter (to me, it’s the best seat in the house as you can be close to the Chef). He offers me a English menu as all the items were only word description with minimum images...( u get the pics here at Google review _
DEC 2024 (Re-visit)
Tried the thick cut Hayashi SPF pork loin cutlet, mille-feuille pork cutlet, and both the small and large deep fried prawn; and this time the meal was just as good as the first visit. Panko coating was flaky and perfectly coated; thick cut pork loin was tender and the fat cap was rich and flavor packed; mille-feuille pork cutlet was so soft and juicy; and the ratio of panko to prawn for the large size was very good and cooked just right with a springy and slightly firm texture.

Visited here to try the tomahawk (bone-in pork cutlet) which is not a common cut served at a tonkatsu restaurant. It comes in at 300g (bone probably 50g) so it might be too much if you don't have a big appetite. The pork was very thick yet it was cooked perfectly; slightly pink, tender and juicy. Panko coating was also perfect, nice and crispy. There were two pieces at the tail end of the bone which was very fatty but full of flavor; best way to enjoy is to have it with some hot mustard to cut through the fattiness and some salt to enhance the savoriness. Also ordered a piece of the pork fillet cutlet which is a lean but very tender cut; also very tasty. For the quality of the tonkatsu, even if the rice/miso/pickles comes at an additional cost it is worth it; it also gives you the flexibility if you decide to indulge in meat only. The owner was nice...

The highest level はやしロース (hayashi rosu) is very good, but it's also very fatty. For those that usually prefer ヒレ (hire / fillet), I would recommend the regular ロース, which is excellent and doesn't not have too too much fat
Update 20240427
The standard ロース tonkatsu here is the best ロース I have ever had, bar none.
It's just and delicious. And even better, the price is reasonable (2000¥ for 300g). I'm very impressed Fujiki has been able to keep their prices reasonable during this inflationary period.
Note, rice/soup are not included in the standard price, it's an extra ~300¥ or so. But even so, the value (cost to quality) ratio here is excellent.
Tonkatsu is delicious!
The ヒレ is good, but the ロース is excellent. I'd really recommend the Tomahawk set meal; great value...
