There are probably numerous sake bars in Tokyo, but since I’ve known this one I no longer see a need to look for another. It is just THAT good.
Location is perfect, close to both Roppongi and Azabu, but the bar itself is hidden, so if you are coming first time don’t miss the right building and get on that elevator to take you to the 5th floor. Once the doors open you will be greeted by the quite serenity of what appears to be a classic Japanese bar.
Unlike a classic Japanese bar, however, this one has a relaxed, warm atmosphere, which I would solely attribute to the bartender and master. He will be able to showcase sakes that are quite impossible to find even in Japan while holding a lovely, never stiff conversation.
The drinks are perfect, - as perfect as rare sake can be, - atmosphere is great, and it being a purely specialized bar... well, I only need one really good sake bar in my collection, and I made...

Incredible sale that each had their history and also their unique taste. For example, I had sake with hints of melon and the bartender was so kind to provide a sake made by technique from 300 years ago that has hints of honey. This was the first sake I’ve had that had a broad flavor profile and I was very impressed by it. The bartender spoke conversational English and explained each sake to us. I recommend this to anyone in the area who is interested in trying a variety of sakes. It was more expensive than a bar but the amazing sake variety and interactions made it well...
Read moreWhile I certainly can't claim this is the best sake bar in Tokyo (because there are too many bars to say that!), I can say that this is one of the best bars I have been to period. It is small and tastefully decorated. Every piece of cat-related decor is elegant and subtle rather than loud and obnoxious. Takumi, the proprietor, is garrulous, engaging, and knowledgeable. He is also hilarious. The variety of sakes is mind-blowing and Takumi can guide you through the ins and outs of how each release is unique and special - and in English, no less! This is a touristy area, but this is not a touristy bar - it is understated, well-stocked, and awesome. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. I would give him 6 stars out of 5, or 11 out of...
