A message to foreign tourists based on reviews I’ve seen: Yes, you’re in Japan. Do not expect people in foreign countries to always speak English. The world does not exist for the comfort of tourism. Learn some Japanese words. “Please” and “thank you” go a long way.
A lot of reviews complaining about having to order 1 bowl per person. Yes, this is common place at all kakigori stores and most cafes in Japan. Most businesses don’t allow people to come occupy their limited space for free (would you, if you had a small business?) If you have friends who aren’t hungry, tell them to wait elsewhere. If they join you, of course the staff will ask them to order a drink or something. It’s a business, not a bus stop.
Yes, your kakigori might look different than other flavors (I can’t believe some are complaining about this).
Yes, you might have to wait in a line outside. It’s a popular store. Try going later in the evening for less crowded times.
Yes, your kakigori will melt. It’s made of ice (I also can’t believe I need to clarify that). It’s a dish meant to be eaten quickly, not leisurely. It’s not Starbucks.
Yes, the ceramic bowl is meant to be that size, as it is normal for kakigori. More surface area of a bowl will make it melt faster. It’s designed this way on purpose.
No, it’s not a Michelin star restaurant (as of current), so do not expect the staff to be wearing white gloves and down on their hands and feet waiting on you (an over privileged tourist complained about this). The staff are generally polite, be polite back.
Have common courtesy and understanding, and you’ll have a...
Read moreAs what some people commented here, the service was bad, and was almost to the point of rude. In our almost 3 weeks in Japan, all service were good, and we have been to couple of pricey restaurants. I do not want to go to specifics. You would not expect it from a dessert place and hole in the wall type of place or maybe the probability is higher in these type of places?? It should not! No matter what type of establishment, it should be good. I have been to couple of 2 Michelin-starred restaurants, and the service was pristine. Like life, it can't be perfect, and you should not dwell in an anomaly, because 95% of our experience in Japan was beyond good. And we spent 28 bucks from Uber to get here and spent 28 bucks on mediocre shaved ice and the coke they forced us to buy was just HALF filled! LOL. But on the bright side, we get to see the beautiful Tokyo Tower afterwards!
I should have followed my rule in terms of my threshold of Google Review ratings on establishments that I try out, which is to have a rating of at least 4.3 or higher! As of this time, this is rated at 3.9 stars. My bad!
I wish I could have reserved sooner Azuki to Kouri, and get some great shaved...
Read moreI feel really sad that I have to give this place one star...because the kakigori is so delicious! The sad fact though is that the customer service here is nonexistent. I'm not expecting much from a dessert shop, but boy, am I disappointed.
Couple things to take note here...this place has many rules and stipulations that ruin the experience. The staff will threaten you to order one item per person even though this rule didn't seem to be posted anywhere.
There's also a rule that you will be upcharged PER PERSON if you pay after 10pm. My group arrived at 9pm, ordered by 915pm. We didn't get all of our desserts until 9:40pm and finished them around 10pm. I paid at the counter at 10:05pm and was very surprised to see the upcharge appear.
Additionally checks cannot be split, not the end of the world but that was the "condensed milk" on top of a very...
