— Long Review:
On Sunday morning, we felt like having some breakfast that’s familiar with our Northern California pallet in the Ginza district.
Our choices were:
bills Ginza, which we passed on because it was 3 $$$ according to Google Maps and World Breakfast Allday, which we went to.
World Breakfast had a sizable line in front, about 4 groups of 3, and the place seemed very intimate and didn’t seem to have many seating, so we figured it would be a decent wait in the rain.
We settled on this place, Eggs ’n Things, about 7 minutes away from World Breakfast on the 4th floor of a shopping mall.
The theme of the restaurant is “Hawaiian breakfast”, and they had things like loco moco on the menu and lava flow, among more traditional American breakfast. We opted for the following:
Cheese Crepe - 5/5 - very buttery and silky. My daughter who can be picky finished it and was very reluctant to share any of it
Eggs Benedict - 5/5 - the poached eggs were perfect as you can see from the picture, and the Hollandaise sauce was as rich as you’d expect from a fancy diner in the ‘states
Cappuccino - 1/5 - They were not serving Lava Flow at 11AM on a Sunday, so I opted for this, which was clearly something they’re not good at making. The foam is flat from the start, and you can’t really taste the coffee flavor. It’s especially disappointing as I’ve had many well crafted cappuccino’s (creamy, foamy, not too bitter) in Tokyo, even from chains like Tully.
pancakes - 4/5. Syrup - 5/5. The pancakes were serviceable enough. I would’ve liked a crispier finish, but otherwise fine. We were very impressed with the trio of sauces that was on every table for the pancakes (or anything else) : regular syrup, a coconut diary sauce that I thought was condensed milk, and a raspberry tart sauce. All 3 were intensely sweet so I would use sparingly, perhaps dip it instead of pouring it over the pancakes. That way, you can also try all 3 sauces.
eggs over easy with 2 types of pork sausages. 4/5. The eggs were perfectly done, and 2 the sausages were distinct and delicious. I deducted a point because I wanted home fried potatoes as a side, and I had to choose between potatoes and pancakes, and they did not allow me to order a side of pancakes or potatoes (at least not with my limited Japanese and their English).
steak and scrambled eggs - 4/5 - The eggs were perfectly scrambled, a little wet, and goes great with steak. The steak was a bit fatty. I would’ve gone with a different cut if given the choice. It was cooked medium rare, and we were not asked how we liked our steak.
The entire bill was 10,000 Yen, which was very reasonable for 3 people, one of whom ordered 2 entrees.
I included a picture of pancakes with whip cream on top, which we did not order, but was very popular. As you can see, they are very generous with their whip cream, even putting Star...
Read moreThis is about as close as you're going to get to western style breakfast in Tokyo. You can get here from the Ginza line or the Yurakucho lines. There is a main entrance on the street side, and a back entrance in the alley, but that doesn't open until 11. Get here before 10 if you don't want a long line to wait in (they do accept reservations though, if you want to do that). After 10:30, the line will be consistently 10+ people deep at all times.
The menu is pretty standard diner fare (eggs, pancakes, waffles, French toast etc.) With some additional Hawaiian options as well. I ordered the eggs and meat combo. The scrambled eggs were actually pleasantly less liquid than most other places in Japan make them. The bacon however, was not bacon. It was cut into strips like bacon, but it was very clearly ham. However, it was well cooked, thick, and not stringy or fatty, so that was fine.
Instead of toast or potatoes, I ordered pancakes. Their pancakes were on the heavy side, but otherwise fine. Their syrups were very good. Their strawberry syrup tastes fresh and in-house made. Their maple syrup was also fresh and tasty. And they had an additional flavor, which I am not quite sure what it was. It had a nutty almost buttery flavor, and was white in color (see the pictures I am posting for how it looks) . I think it was some sort of hazelnut (or similar) derivative. Overall, great breakfast place.
Note, coffee refills are NOT free, you have to ask for salt and pepper (the staff don't speak English much, so be prepared) and by default they serve a rather large mug of coffee with only one cream and one sugar. So, if you take cream and sugar I your coffee, you'll have to ask for more. I liked it, and plan to...
Read moreI came here back in June 2023 and I’d have to say that the breakfast is impeccable! Here, I will discuss the food, service, and atmosphere of this restaurant in great detail.
First and foremost, I really enjoyed my time in the Chuo City area. In the early morning hours, it was not as busy as you’d think it would be - the restaurant took some time to get to but I enjoyed my visit nonetheless.
FOOD: It was so delicious! There was a particular matcha pancake dish that was too delicious to pass on - you gots to give it a try. It has the perfect consistency and sweetness that even people who don’t have a sweet tooth would enjoy. Another dish was more egg based but I kid you not, it was very unique. I can’t remember the names of these dishes but I swear to you, this restaurant does not disappoint.
SERVICE: Even though it can get pretty busy, the service is decent. However, if you stop by sometime around midday, expect really long wait times as this place gets crowded very quickly. If you’re visiting with a group of 6 or more, they’ll definitely make something work with the space that they have which is very convenient.
ATMOSPHERE: This place is definitely one of a kind for sure! The natural lighting to the beautiful tropical theme and design - it almost felt as if I was staying at a resort. I’m not used to this sort of ambience where I am from as the whole experience feel so warm, inviting and relaxing.
I hope to...
