This is a famous bakery in Ginza with a ton of history. From what I read, it was founded in 1869 by a samurai’s. They are supposed to be the inventors of the an-pan which is their specialty.
This bakery always has a line outside. It’s 3 levels. Level 1 is the to go bakery section. Level 2 is a restaurant and level 3 is a coffee cafe I think.
I bought a variety of buns to try ranging from sweet to savory. I tried their famous an-pan in 2 varieties- custard and the original red bean, a special burdock root bun, seasonal fig bread, curry pan, cheese bread and a shrimp Katsu sandwich.
The best thing was the custard an-pan. The bread was very soft and the custard was perfect. I was not a fan of the curry pan…it was soggy and didn’t have much flavor. The cheese bread was good but not anything to write home about …same with the shrimp sandwich. I did enjoy the burdock root bun because it was so unusual. The fig bread was good too and was filled with fresh fig.
Prices were on the higher side but it is in a high end area in Ginza and it’s famous so they can get away with higher prices.
Maybe I should have got the shrimp katsu sandwich from the cafe upstairs so it would have been warm and not cold since I heard this was supposed to be good.
It was a good spot to visit because of the history and its famous but it’s not a...

The Sakura red bean paste bread was chewy and not too sweet but the fermented alcoholic scent isn't as strong. still delicious
2nd visit: The Matcha bean paste butter bun tasted absolutely amazing. Chewy and soft bun enveloping the sublime matcha filling while balancing with a tint of saltiness from the creamy butter on top. Absolutely amazing. However, the bun lacks the flour scent of high quality flour, or else it might be the perfect Matcha bun.
3rd visit: Red bean butter bun was amazingly delicious. Soft bun with subtle sweetness of red bean paste. Red bean paste was uplifted even more when eaten with the silk meltingly butter on top which creates the perfect marriage of milk and red bean.
However, same as the matcha's version. The skin of the bun is too chewy which will not easily break when bite and forces the filling out of bun. It will be The Perfect Bun if the skin of the bun is soft too. Anyway, Awesome...

Whether in Japan or internationally, Ginza Kimuraya is a beloved bakery. On November 3rd, I passed by this store and heard Chinese tourists outside praising the bakery's popularity. Later, when I went to the Uniqlo flagship store, I discovered that Uniqlo had collaborated with Kimuraya to release T-shirts, which shows the reputation of...
