The last time I was here they were sold out of most items so I decided not to queue for it. This time I took a peek and while a number were sold out, I saw that the pistachio one was still available so I joined the queue.
Queues are long but they move fairly fast, with an efficient ordering system. The order chits are handed out in advance so you can already decide what you want while in queue, then a staff collects them and brings it back to the store where others pack them. So with I think easily 10+ persons before me in queue, I got my order in less than 15 mins.
Got the Pistachio and Cocoa ones. They turned out to be smaller than I expected, had I known earlier, I would have the Original too. The Pistachio was amazing! Nutty, creamy, and a generous portion of filling inside a soft fluffy donut, which has pumpkin in the dough, giving it the orange-yellow hue.
Saved the Cocoa one for the next day and it still tasted soft without drying out but the flavour wasn't particularly outstanding, meaning if I were to return, I probably won't order it again.
A little pricey for the size but taste and texture's great, well worth the queue! Go early though as they tend to sell out early. When I walked by again later around 5.30pm, on the way back to the train station, they were already closed with a...
Read moreI got there at around 2:05-2:10pm. I got my donut at 2:53pm. I definitely don’t mind waiting in line for things, but the process was a little confusing. I thought it was just a take-away stand but there is an upstairs area to eat and order coffee. Apparently the downstairs and upstairs are separate: I wanted to just buy a donut and do take-away but they said if I wanted a donut I have to go upstairs (because while waiting in line, they came out to say that they were sold out). So I ordered one of the last donuts, my bf didn’t want a donut. The part that felt uncomfortable was, upon reaching the upstairs area, we were told that it is dine-in only AND each person present has to order a drink. So since my bf was with me (he doesn’t like sweets) we had to order something each. Also it’s cashless pay only (I don’t think they had Suica). So the whole experience was kind of off-putting. I could have just left but my bf waited in line with me for like 45 mins I didn’t want to just say nvm. Maybe that’s my fault for not speaking enough Japanese, but I wish they had signage that explained the process. TLDR: the donut was good, but not worth the experience. They sold out hours before...
Read moreAfter first visiting the Omotesando branch with a line of about 8-10 people, I stopped by another location around 2 PM on a weekday to find a line of the same size. There are two lines: one for ordering and a second for pickup. The total wait time to payment was around 20 minutes, and payment is cashless only. Service was adequate, but the lines could be delineated a bit more clearly.
I ordered two regular "I'm donut?" donuts (the plain and the chocolate), a strawberry chocolate "raw french cruller," and three cream-filled donuts (pistachio, blueberry cheesecake, and matcha & red bean).
The regular donuts are fluffy and chewy with a mochi-like interior and made for a more Japanese palate, as both the plain and chocolate donuts had a much more balanced sweetness compared to typical American-style donuts. When I cut the cream donuts to split them, they were all well and evenly filled with cream and red bean paste for the matcha donut.
The cruller is very similar to a Mr. Donut Pon de Ring, but it was slightly more cooked and less chewy. The flavor was balanced but slightly on the sweeter side.
The donuts were fine, but I personally would not wait...
