29/05/25 update

We have been back to Maison Marunochi a few times now primarily for the affordable lunch set and of course their mille-feuille. The food has been great up until our last visit. Not quite sure what was wrong but this may be the last visit to the restaurant.

Ended up cancelling our reservations at Sézanne as the wife had dietary restrictions due to the passing of a family member. Best option was to dine at Maison Marunochi as it gave her more options for lunch.

First thing we noticed was that they have revamped their menu and offer a few different set meals along with the option to order a la carte. We ended up ordering a few dishes each.

Shortly after we ordered, the waiter brought out an olive focaccia and gazpacho. Both were good though I wish they would've warmed the focaccia as it was cold.

We absolutely love the gougère at Sézanne and though not as good, it has been good here in the past. This time around, it was cold which was a let down.

For my entree, I opted for the ribeye steak frites cooked to a rare temp. Though the steak was cooked perfectly, I was actually shocked at how much fat was left on the steak when they served it. Not one to complain, I ended up just eating the steak and left all of the fat on the plate. One of the servers did ask how the food was and that's when I mentioned how I was disappointed on how much fat was left. He agreed that the chef should've trimmed it before serving and that he would mention it to them. The salad they served with the steak was actually the best part of the dish which is pretty disappointing.

Wife ordered a salad for her entree which she was disappointed with.

For dessert, we both ordered the mille-feuille which has been phenomenal in the past and reason for multiple visits. The seasonal mille-feuille was a melon which sounded awesome and really hoped we could've ended the meal on a higher note. Sadly, I knew something was wrong when I cut into it. The puff pastry did not have the familiar crunch and was confirmed when we took a bite. Though the melon cream was tasty, the puff pastry was soggy which means it had been sitting in the fridge for some time.

Sadly, this was not the meal we had hoped to have and am not sure if we will be back to dine here.

Second visit to Maison Marunochi and the food and service were outstanding. Love the casual French bistro menu options which brought us back to our trips to Paris. Love the view of train tracks where you can the Shinkansen trains regularly depart while eating fabulous food. Highly recommend getting the 4 course set as it includes a canapé, an entree, a plat and dessert. Highly recommend the comte gougeres, croque madame, french onion soup, cheese burger, fried chicken and of course the mille-feuille. The menu does change so some items weren’t available on our...

TLDR: Terrible service, unprofessional staff and mediocre food for a restaurant at Four Seasons. Basically unacceptable.

Booked a table for four, two of us arrived on time while our two friends were 45 minutes late (we were tourists and they got lost). We felt horrible and did apologized, but it was too much and even rude when the servers asked us FOUR TIMES to "confirm our booking". (Meanwhile, only at the THIRD time we were introduced the menu)

Ordered a glass of Merlot, strangely the server did not offer us to taste the wine and immediately poured a glass. (And it was not just us. We saw the couple next to us ordered a bottle of champagne and there was no tasting either (same server)). For a Four Seasons restaurant that was utterly unprofessional. Not sure if they even have a sommelier, but even if not the server could have done better.

Food was mediocre. Ordered four dinner sets which included one canapé, one entrée, one plat and one dessert for each. Except for the freshly baked madeleines almost all dishes were lukewarm (including the onion soup - how was that possible?!?!). The best dish was the chicken liver parfait which was silky and aromatic... Beef wellington was good too (despite it was lukewarm, again)... But in general, food quality was sub-par at this price range.

Service was the most terrible of all. Obviously they were understaff so service/refilling of water was slow (except when they bombarded us to "confirm the booking"). We even have to wait for a good few minutes to catch a server to check the bill...

Finally, paid the bill and the server returned with the receipt, signaled us to take the receipt OURSELVES by TAPPING on the bill. Wow. Even in convenience stores we were HANDED the bill with a thank you.

Well, all I can say is that it's a miracle this restaurant survive in Japan with this level of service (a place where...

Amazing service! I know in Japan is a country where you don’t give gratuity but I wanted to! I asked the host about it because the man who took care of us (I somehow did not get his name but is from Paris) was amazing to us! I don’t know how else to show my appreciation except to tell all of you about it.

I so appreciated all the staff, I was with two teenage boys and they were underdressed for sure, and I could have been better myself after a long day. No one showed they had noticed and were so welcoming to their restaurant and Japan!

Like others said, it’s hard to find, but if you navigate to the Four Seasons the staff there will help, they also went above and beyond, arranging a taxi after dinner, even my teenager commented on the amazing service.

I enjoyed the canapés we ordered, they are quite simple in flavor, but I prefer that prior to a main course. I saw some other reviews but I liked the clean simple dishes to start, as did my picky kids!

Speaking of them, I have one teenager who has high standards and another who is super picky and never finishes anything. They both finished EVERYTHING. My older one said the beef Wellington ranks in his top meals and moved this trip from a 9.5 to a 10!

The picky one ate ALL the chicken marunouchi and the fries. He never finishes the meal. This meal made him increase his ranking from a 9 to a 10!

So thank you to the man who took care of us, the chef, the host, the man downstairs who helped with the taxi, you really impressed all of us and gave us a great meal as the...

As it’s next door to a 3 Michelin Star Restaurant in the same hotel, I may have thought some of the magic may have rubbed off…yet Maison (which actually gets a notable mention in the 2024 Michelin Guide itself) is rather lackluster for the price-tag. The environment is more that of a gastro-bar than the promised French bistro, in a rather narrow space along the side of the building. The abundance of natural light and view over the train tracks almost made me feel like I was in a station platform waiting room. The menu wasn’t very imaginative - and ordering anything other than the burger or fried chicken (French dining?) as your main on its ¥10,000 four course lunch, and you will be paying a rather obnoxious surcharge. Though it must be noted a glass of wine is included in this course. The food was a mixed bag, prepared with undeniable skill (tasty taramasalata, very good scallop tortelloni) but lacking the refinement you would usually expect at a Four Seasons Hotel. No bread offered at any point during the meal is rather disappointing also, though staff were attentive and pleasant throughout. There is three course ¥5,000 express menu (which is basically burger or fried chicken as main. But then if I wanted a burger….would I choose French dining in the Four Seasons?

Located on the 7th floor of the Four Seasons hotel in the Pacific Century building, you need to look out for signs to the hotel itself in the back as you need to use different elevators to access the hotel and this restaurant. We had a great date night here. You're able to book online quite easily and it has a nice view of Tokyo station which would make this an awesome destination for lunch or early dinner when the light is still out. Staff are very friendly and speak English. For the location and brand, we felt prices were reasonable, particularly their course menu. For JPY 8,800 per person, you get to pick 1 appetizer, 1 entree, 1 main, and 1 dessert on their menu. Some of the mains have an extra cost so make sure to double-check with the waiter. If you don't mind sharing, this is a great way to sample more of their menu. We were huge fans of their cheese gougere, mushroom orzo and cuttlefish "tagliatelle."
