We went for lunch, and it's a buffet for a decent price, so that's nice. There was not much variety in curry or meat, just one type of chicken and some thin sauce that is definitely the norm for Japanese style curry (though the taste is a bit unique compared to most of the Japanese curry chains). There was a variety of good vegetable toppings, which were mostly quite good.
I'm more of a fan of either Indian curry that includes a lot of meat or any sort of texture, or Japanese curry that prominently features katsu or some sort of meat as well, so that's why I gave this only 3 stars (for being a bit boring).
They had four curry sauce bins, three brown and one green. Two of the brown seemed the same to me (maybe one was specifically vegetarian), and the third one was also the same flavor but very spicy (though not overly so for Western tastes). The founder was a businessman who read a popular book about healthcare and realized that nowadays vegetables and fruits contain only 1/3rd of their past vitamin content, so he decided to make a curry that contains triple amount vegetables and fruits. Moyan Curry is super tasty, vegan, gluten free, and probably lactose free as well. It was my first time trying the curry all-you-can-eat, and it was a bargain! Every side dish, including the teriyaki chicken (the only meat topping) tasted wonderful, the curry was mild, but spicy and heartwarming. They have different kinds of curry to try, and you can even see the machine kneading the curry base in the kitchen. Great and friendly atmosphere,...
Read moreIf you like Japanese curry and happen to be in Ikebukuro then this is definitely a place to try! Cosy atmosphere and free potatoes (?) and coffee included we with the meal. They also have interesting alternatives like shrimp-avocado curry, and stir fried vegetable curry (so there are options for the vegetarian too).
You can choose the spiciness of the curry from a scale. It's quite accurate, the normal one just has a hint of edge to it and the sweet...
