Negishi — Restaurant in Tokyo

Restaurant that specializes in beef tongue which can sound strange especially if you are not familiar with Asian food but definitely worth checking out. The restaurant has a nice setting on the 13th floor with a quiet, elegant ambience. We ordered the standard beef tongue set, and another set which had the 3 cuts of different beef tongue. The standard set had a nice chewy texture, but the thick cut of beef tongue has a slight chew before almost melting in your mouth - almost like a wagyu effect. Each set comes with barley rice, ox tail broth, pickled vegetables, miso okra, and tororo, which is a grated yam dish that is made with dashi. I believe the tororo is typically mixed with hot rice and soya sauce and is supposed to be healthy but it was a bit too slimy for our tastes. when i close my eyes and picture heaven, i see negishi. words cannot express how much i love negishi. from the second i sink my teeth into the bouncy, chewy beef tongue, i am enveloped in a flood of extraordinary flavours. accompanying the meat to create beautiful symphony of a meal is the piping hot rice (which you can get free refills of!) and the silky grated yam i have incorporated into it, coating each grain with its unique texture and subtle taste. the meat and the rice come together in perfect harmony, balancing each other out to create the most sensational experience. i want to be buried next to this basement in ginza — i want the aroma of the beef tongue, the steam of the rice, and the coolness of the grated yam to send me to the afterlife. only then, will i know that i have lived...

The restaurant is east to locate, a few minutes walk from Mitsuikoshi. There are in general menu for ox tongue and chicken. Don't waste your time to choose. No.1 set is the best for chicken and ox tongue.

Ox tongue is tender and yummy despite a little salty. Ox tongue soup is also delicious. Quite appreciate the sticky Japanese yam, good for our health.

Overall dinner environment is comfortable with clean and tidy tables and chairs. Their staff is attentive and understands English. You can comfortably relax with friends after the meal and their staff will continue to serve you tea.
