I tried this place out as I was searching for a decent omu rice place around Shinjuku. I felt the decor was a bit dated with the checkered red/white table cloths and floral pattern seats. I ordered the omu rice with spaghetti napolitan. The set came with a salad, corn soup and soft bun. Overall the service was responsive and quick. I felt the highlight was the soft bun which was served warm and well buttered. The texture was soft and chewy feel. It went well with the corn soup (which tasted like what you get at Saizeria). Spaghetti was topped with some slices of cheese (appreciate they didn’t use the canned powdered stuff). However, the cheese was a bit too thin and melted while I was eating the bread/soup. So the small slices kind of all stuck together. Spaghetti taste wise was ok but was a bit soft (overcooked). The egg on the omu rice was a bit too dry (felt like tamagoyaki texture) and the tomato rice inside seemed like it was prepared beforehand as it was lukewarm. I ordered the crème brûlée for dessert and the caramel layer was too thick (was hard to crack with the spoon) and the pudding was average. I give the bread a 4 stars but everything else seemed like 3 stars. Probably would not come here again for omu rice as it didn’t quite hit the spot and the other food items did...
Read moreThe food is actually great, but service is disappointing. If you don't speak Japanese, go somewhere else. The receptionist, which I assume is the senior waitress as she dressed differently, is quite rude. She is in her 20s so I assume she speaks at least minimal English. I told her politely that I only speaks English, but she keeps bombering me with Japanese, with no sign of trying to explain herself otherwise, like using hand gesture or find other staff that speaks English. (There are several staffs speak simple English, as I find out during the meal.) Eventually she give up and just give me a seat. Things get even worse when I order my meal, no English, and she keeps poking the menu in frustration. Ironically, I went to some other traditional Japanese restaurant ( tempura, sushi, ramen, authentic Japanese meal shop). They are all being considerate and help me with however little English they know. How disappointing that a "western restaurant" gives me the hardest time in my...
Read moreLovely restaurant with very friendly staff. Ordered the no.1 seller hamburger steak omurice. Not the best but definitely one of the top few. The sauce is flavourful and the hamburger steak is nicely charred on the outside and juicy on the inside. The egg on the top is amazing but the rice is alittle disappointing. It’s not as tasty but eaten together with the steak, egg and sauce it’s heavenly. So note that their rice are cooked with chicken stock so it’s a no go for vegetarian. The only vegetarian option is the broccoli omelette. It’s not bad but nothing fancy. The highlight will be the bread that comes along with it. It’s fluffy hot and tasty. The desert we choose to go with is the chocolate parfait. The ice cream itself is good but the whipped cream and brownie makes it too sweet overall. Will I go back again? Definitely. The overall experience is good and food is...
