Well, it was nothing short of my lucky night that I found this place. I was walking around aimlessly although I had the goal of escaping touristy Shinjiku to find a place for dinner that was frequented by locals. It was a good 45 minute walk but I knew I was close when I started seeing restaurants that didn’t accept credit cards. Even thought like most tourists, I had no cash on me. That was just a long preamble to say I found Ramen Tomo in a quiet part of town, away from tourists and exploding in taste and flavor. The ticket ordering system was standard, the service was excellent and the food was incredible. It was absolutely worth the walk for me tonight and I hope to call on them again when I am next in Tokyo.

I tried multiple ramen restaurants in Tokyo and Hakone and some restaurants I waited hours to get in. You know what, this one stood out and I did not even need to wait to get in. Excellent soup base that I finished every single drop! This shop was within walking distance after a visit to Yasukuni shrine. Highly recommended. My only regret was not having a bigger stomach so I could eat two bowls of ramen.

It has been 195 days since I had the rich duck ramen at Tomo. I still dream of it. The rich, creamy, deep savory flavor of the broth, the perfectly chewy noodles, the beautiful balance brought by the yuzu egg. Everywhere I go, I seek out the highest rated ramen restaurant around, chasing the Tomo dragon, hoping to find something as good. So far, no luck. Hopefully next time I'm back in Tokyo.
