Ramen Waka Tokyo — Restaurant in Tokyo

I heard about this place from a YouTube video and was rated as #2 out of 8 ramen places the YouTuber tried in Tokyo. Since we were staying in Shinagawa and this place was within walking distance, I had to try. This place was not very easy to find. I used Google maps as my GPS so I got there fine, but normally people would probably not notice this place as the location isn’t the greatest.

I arrived late on a Tuesday night after 8pm. In the cold winter, this place was super warm. I appreciated that, but was sweating a lot even before my ramen came. I was sweating even more while eating, but it was all worth it. Although the place closes at 10pm, many items were already sold out as shown from the vending machine. The good news is that it still had what I wanted to eat - Special shoyu ramen and the egg over rice. I was amazed at the broth of the special shoyu. It did not look heavy, and it had layers of complexity. My mind was blown. I was perplexed at how they were able to make it. The dumplings were not bad, but not much to write home about. The soft boiled egg was great. I probably didn’t need the egg over rice, but I really wanted it. The creaminess of the egg with rice was just intoxicating.

What a satisfying meal, both quality and quantity. If I’m in Shinagawa again, I would...

土曜日のランチタイムに伺いました。品川駅近くに住み始めて3年目ですが、初めての訪問でした。お店の場所は「隠れた名店」と呼ぶにふさわしい雰囲気で、入口には昨年までの「百名店」のステッカーが貼られていました。

友人が以前から勧めていた3種類のスープがブレンドされたラーメンを注文しました。スープはさっぱりしつつも濃厚で、絶妙なバランスの取れた味わいでした。美味しくてスープを最後の一滴まで飲み干してしまいました。麺の茹で加減も申し分なく、チャーシューや追加で注文した味玉も完璧でした。

しかしながら、接客や店内の清潔さに関していくつか失望する点があり、再訪の意欲はありません。

残念だった点

テーブルの清潔さ 食券を購入してテーブルに着席しましたが、テーブルから雑巾臭が漂っていました。おしぼりが提供されなかったため、自分で拭くことができませんでした。ホールスタッフの方に小声で「テーブルから匂いがするので、一度拭いていただけますか」と丁寧にお願いしました。少し外国語訛りのあるスタッフの方が、小さな模様付きの灰色の雑巾を持ってきました。そこで「雑巾の匂いのようなので、別のもので拭いていただけると助かります」と再度丁寧にお願いしました。しかし、しばらく雑巾を探した後、「ありません」と一言だけ返され、その後特に対応はありませんでした。結局、自分でティッシュを濡らして拭きましたが、匂いは消えず、不快な気持ちになりました。

価格に対するボリュームの不足 ラーメンの質や量に比べて、価格が少し高いと感じました。チャーシューは薄いものが1枚だけで、一緒に行った人には小さなものが2枚入っているだけでした。野菜やメンマも非常に少量で、満足感には欠けました。

テーブルセッティング テーブルの上に置かれた水差しには浄水や烏龍茶ではなく水道水が入っていました。個人的にはこれが残念なポイントでした。また、テーブルには胡椒やトッピングなどの調味料が一切用意されていませんでした。味に自信があるからかもしれませんが、少し配慮が足りないと感じます。さらに、ラーメンの器の下に小皿がないため、スプーンや箸を置く場所がなく、テーブルの匂いと相まって非常に不便でした。

店内の動線 食べ終えて店を出る際、混雑するランチタイムにおいて、食券機の列、入店待ちの列、退店する客の動線が混乱していました。狭い通路でこれら3つのグループが交差しており、ぶつかり合う場面が多く、全員が不便を感じている様子でした。

総括

テーブルの清潔さが欠けており、スタッフの対応も良くありませんでした。また、券売機の使い勝手が悪く、店内動線も整っていません。味は良いものの、やや高めの価格設定と全体的な利用者体験の悪さから、再訪は考えておりません。

I visited the restaurant on Saturday for lunch. Although I’ve lived near Shinagawa Station for three years, it was my first time visiting. The location felt like a true "hidden gem," with "Hyakumeiten" (Top 100) stickers on the entrance.

I tried the three-mixed-soup ramen recommended by a friend. The broth was clean yet rich, perfectly balanced, and delicious—I finished it all. The noodles were cooked well, and the pork slices and seasoned egg were excellent.

However, the experience was disappointing overall due to cleanliness and service issues.

Cleanliness: The table had a strong musty smell, and despite politely asking the staff to clean it, they didn’t resolve the issue. I had to clean it myself, but the smell remained, making it an unpleasant experience.

Price vs. Portion: The portion felt small for the price—only one thin pork slice (or two very small ones) and minimal vegetables.

Setup: Tap water was served instead of filtered water or tea, no condiments were available, and there was no plate under the bowl to rest utensils.

Layout: The space was chaotic, with overlapping lines for tickets, entry, and exiting, causing inconvenience during peak hours.

I recently enjoyed the Special Shoyu Ramen alongside char siu over rice. The broth of the ramen was a delightful revelation, boasting layers of complexity that were surprisingly light, thanks to a bright acidity that set it apart from other shoyu ramen I’ve tried.

While the wontons and char siu rice were decent, they didn't particularly stand out—unfortunately, the meat had a dried texture and it doesn’t seem it was even overcooked or what.

Despite this, the overall experience of the ramen was quite good, making it worth a try if you can overlook the shortcomings...
