Royal Bar — Restaurant in Tokyo

これが三回目の訪問だったんですが、前回二回はひとといっしょので、あまり写真が撮れなかったんですね。一回目は数年前にパレスさんでアフタヌーンティーをいただいたあとに、ロイヤルバーを紹介されて、二回目はこの前夜で、そのときに、「明日、ここのお寿司屋さんを予約しているんですが、できればその前に」と言うと、ここは三時から開いていますということだったので、開店と同時に入って、二時間くらい、チーフバーテンダーさんのお話を聴きながら、いろいろなカクテルをいただきました。バーテンダーさんのお話は、多岐にわたって、マッカーサーさんのカクテルのお話とか、マルティーニのこととか、あと、おうちでできるカクテルってありますかと訊いたら、気さくに、「これとこれとこれです。実演しましょうか」と応じてくださって、たいへんたのしい時を過ごせました。ありがとうございました。

This was my third visit to the bar but on the previous two occasions I was with another person, so I didn't get many photos. The first time was a few years ago, after having afternoon tea at the Palace Hotel, when I was recommended the Royal Bar by the server. The second time was the night before this visit, and when I mentioned that I had a reservation at a nearby sushi restaurant the next day, and asked if I could stop by beforehand, they said they opened at 3 PM, so I went in right at opening time and spent about two hours there, enjoying various cocktails while listening to the head bartender's interesting stories. His stories covered a wide range of topics, including General MacArthur's favorite cocktail, the history of their Martini and the old mixing glass he uses, and when I asked him about easy cocktails to make at home, he cheerfully suggested a couple and even demonstrated how to make them (and he is a former world champion).
