SILIM Fuan Long Yuen — Restaurant in Tokyo

Seldom can you find a Chinese restaurant with food as elegant and fancy yet an atmosphere and service that’s welcoming and casual as this.

We had the dinner course meal, and we could choose our appetizer and closing dish (carbohydrates: choice of a fried rice or 2 kinds of noodle dishes). The entire course was great but the shrimp with mayo-based sauce was amazing.

The interior was simple, yet elegant, comvining real well with the high ceiling and good food. The view outside at night was also fantastic - in the distance were some skyscrapers of Tokyo but right outside was some greenery and open space. Again somewhat a luxury in Tokyo.

The food was alright. Came out a strange times- for example there was a major lag in the fish and the congee (a lunch course) coming out so the fish was cold by the time the accompanying congee arrived. The fish was also quite fishy and not very pleasant.

The individual dumplings weren’t remotely warm and were okay. One dumpling had a open hole in it where the outside had ripped or something.

The coconut ice cream with tapioca was alright- the tapioca didn’t seem to be fully cooked.

The view was nice! And peaceful for a weekend lunch!

I won’t include photos since plenty are already available online. Three of us visited on a Saturday evening with a reservation. The restaurant was nearly empty — and it quickly became clear why.

I’ve dined at many high-end Chinese restaurants in Tokyo, and while this place presents itself as one, it simply doesn’t live up to the claim. The food was underwhelming across the board. Service was adequate but unremarkable. The lighting felt harsh and overly bright for dinner service, more reminiscent of closing time than an inviting evening ambiance.

Drinks were marked up to roughly triple the market price, which seemed excessive, and a service fee was also added.

Bottom line: unless you’re looking for lackluster, overpriced food, this is one restaurant best...
