Tenichi Tempura Restaurant in Ginza is a hidden gem tucked away in the alleys of this upscale district.
Known for its exceptional quality, this restaurant has welcomed many foreign dignitaries and is often regarded as a presidential-level dining experience.
The price certainly reflects its luxurious status, starting at a minimum of JPY 16,000 per person. Despite the high cost, I highly recommend trying this restaurant at least once when visiting Ginza.
The meal is served as a personal set menu, featuring 10 to 15 different tempura dishes, all freshly fried to perfection. The selection ranges from potatoes, various vegetables, shrimp, eel, to different meats. Each piece is golden and crispy, delivering an exquisite burst of flavor with every bite.
What impressed me the most was the final dish of the set—a tempura donburi (rice bowl) paired with a delightful dessert of perfectly ripe melon. The combination of the crunchy, savory tempura with the sweetness of the melon provided a harmonious ending to the meal, making it one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve had during my trip to Tokyo.
The ambiance of Tenichi is elegant and refined, with a focus on providing a high-quality, intimate dining experience. The chef's meticulous attention to detail and skill is evident in every dish, ensuring that each guest enjoys the pinnacle of tempura cuisine.
Overall, Tenichi is a must-visit for those looking to indulge in the finest tempura in Tokyo. While the price may be steep, the quality, service, and unforgettable flavors make it a worthwhile splurge for a special occasion or a unique culinary...
Read moreFood: • ordered the flower (花) set - assorted tempura + choice of tendon / tencha (kakiage with tea) + dessert and tea • tempura highlights: shrimp, oyster, shiitake mushrooms • there’s something so well done about the tempura where the batter is crisp but nothing was ever hitting as greasy • the difference in the tempura crust (?) is also subtle but appreciated
Service: • S tier • tempura is made in front of the table which is always very interesting (it’s essentially a tempura Omakase) • the food service was also timed well; the chef was attentive in putting out the next course after we finished the previous one but never too soon • the service staff was beyond nice - holding the lift door, making sure drinks are topped up, explanations of menu items, holding coats
Ambiance: • Also S tier • the seats are on tatami mats but not uncomfortable • the place is very very clean and doesn’t smell of oil at all (but doesn’t have a sort of artificial fragrance either)
Unrelated points: • Was recommended this restaurant by the staff of another tempura restaurant nearby (that was full) • it was nice to see businesses in the area...
Read moreVery very high end tempura restaurant and the best tempura I've had in my life. Posting this review now but I ate it back in 2018. 4 years later and I'm still thinking about them. Was recommended by a Japanese colleague to try.
The batter is so light and isn't oily and they managed to bring out the flavors of every single ingredient. Every bite was a rush of flavors in my mouth I'm still wondering how they managed to enhance the taste so much. At the end of the meal you get to pick your slice of fruit for dessert. They're all good and you'll be tempted to get the famous Japanese musk melon but I'd recommend you ask the waitress what is the best for the day. They'll know..
Service is excellent obviously so if you got bad service you might have done...
