I've eaten a lot of tonkatsu in Japan. The best tend to have the right amount of crunch, the right amount of juice, and a great flavor.
I am happy to report, Maruichi's tonkatsu have all three points, nearly to perfection.
For English speakers, there is a limited English menu. The hostess will seat you and give you the limited menu printed out, point at what you want and you're ready to feast.
If you can read/speak Japanese, there are more options available but the tonkatsu for me was the best option and it's available to everyone (they will also serve the other items if you can figure them out, of course; it's not like they won't make them for you if you aren't Japanese).

Read morei stopped by twice for lunch with my girlfriend as we stayed at the hotel next door and was amazed at how cozy the atmosphere was and how home cooked the meals felt.
my girlfriend loves saba shioyaki and claims this is the best she had during our time in japan. it was perfectly grilled, not dry, and super tender.
my katsu was also amazing, super crispy and juicy. you can even smell/hear the chef deep frying the katsu fresh for every order. it smelled good from across the room before my dish was even served to me
