Was here during summer of 2023 - came recommended by the concierge of the Capital Hotel Tokyo where we stayed and was definitely not disappointed. The setting of a standalone low rise building among the tall establishments around in Akasaka is interesting and we like the traditional setting which reminds us of restaurants in Kyoto. We had a fabulous time at Umaya! I reserved a table for three at 5pm on Wednesday via Google. We don’t speak much Japanese, but were able to communicate with translations on my smartphone, and ordered from an English menu. A la carte ordering was available, but we each ordered a full course meal (two with Black Pork Shabu Shabu Hot Pot, and one Uta course). Came for dinner with work - it's a place for Japanese to bring foreign guests/ clients/ work members or have company events, not somewhere I would recommend to visit for dinner as a couple or for something special.
