The food is good here, no doubt about that. They bring nice sauces to the table in little jars, which bodes well.

The straw-smoked items are well-flavoured although I found it a bit much with the asparagus. Their bonito was fresh and tasty.

Drinks were nice - we had yuzu sours, the kids yuzu sodas, and both options were lovely.

But watch out for the cover charge of ¥500 per person, including kids. I know it’s a custom and you just need to get over it, but ¥2000 was the most expensive item on our bill by quite some way (20% of it, in fact). Very nice location next to our hotel so we went there for a late dinner,. Food tasted good. They had an English menu and the staff was friendly and atmosphere very good. We had a nice table and ordered the food.. tasted all very nice. What really bothers me is they charge you 500 yen a table charge for some salad with a dressing of choice. You expect to get it as part as a service. So be aware of that when you eat here... you are never informed.... until you see the menu but by that time you are too late... this is why it gets a 3 star rating...

Excellent restaurant with great food. Sit at the bar to watch the chefs prepare all the dishes. Exotic meats are available on the menu such as horse and whale. Watch the chefs prepare meats and vegetables over burning handfuls of hay which imparts a great smokey flavour. You know a restaurant is good when it's filled with locals on a Monday night.
