minato coffee — Restaurant in Yokohama

What a shame, first time we went a skilled barista looked after us she knew what she was doing, was a surper nice coffee little small but nice.

2nd time we went we were meet with what could only be described as a xenophobic individual. When my Japanese partner asked him for 2 shots of expresso it went from all good to oh 'coffee machine needs maintenance' he was to interested in hanging out with his friend then serving us. Maybe it was simply to hard for him to serve a double shot?

Unfortunately for him my partner is a barista, the shop wouldn't open if the tools needed to do there job was not working or the 'maintenance' would of been completed before opening the shop. Keep in mind we arrived at 10 in the morning about 2 hours after the shop had opened.

Also Maintenance on those machines only require about 5 minutes at most to run there descaling. No option to 'wait for it' just pretty much nah machine not working.

As he continued to poor his friend coffee.

I recommend if you're visiting Yokohama just go to the 'bluebottle coffee' it's next to the train just outside facing the Sheraton hotel far better coffee far better service and they fill your coffee to the rim.

A coffee stand between landmark tower and queens square- within the pillars of the building. Serving mainly lighter roast, acidic coffee from 3 to 4 different roasters at a time. They carry a great variation of beans and a great story to go with each of them. Recommendation is to go with the hand drip, but the batch brew is also great value as they use single origin beans. All of the baristas are talented and will brew you a clean cup with a V60 in front of you.

One of my favorite coffee stops in all of Yokohama & Tokyo. I always make sure to stop here when visiting the Minato Mirai area. It’s a tiny shop, and often only one or two staff are working - but they are really excellent at their craft and even if it’s busy, the coffee is 100% worth the wait.
