Aragats — Restaurant in Riga

We had an unpleasant experience unfortunately. We made the mistake of ordering as a group (there were 7 of us) and not individually and had some problems as a result: We ordered meat for 6 people and were charged for 8 (which arrived after an hour wait); We ordered one portion of cheese and were charged for two; We ordered barbecued vegetables and were brought vegetable tops and sprigs which for us were not very comestible; We were suggested to order the house wine, which is usually reasonably priced in most restaurants, but in their's it's the most expensive. ... €30 a liter! (Our fault that we didn't ask how much it cost first). At a certain point the english-speaking waittress was gone and we were left with the busboy who spoke no english. When we brought our complaints to the owner he seemed not to care and was inflexiblé: he insisted we pay thé €240 bill even though it was full of mistakes from our point of view.The meat was quite good but know that you have to wait a long time for it and make sure your waitress understands you well...

Great, cozy place with fabulous Georgian cuisine. I first tried Georgian food 6 months ago when I was in Kiev and loved it. When I saw that this place was just a few blocks from where I was staying in Riga, I eagerly made my way there. Cute basement level restaurant with a clean albeit comfy vibe. I ordered eggplant rolls stuffed with cheese and garlic, a bowl of hartcho soup, fish "trapazound" (baked salmon and vegetables) and some dry Armenian wine. Fantastic. The eggplant rolls were the best I've had, and that wonderful Georgian spice melange khmeli suneli hit just the right notes with the salmon. As good as the food was, it was also fun to watch the owner (I think) share good times with some her friends who'd come to dine. I speak neither Latvian nor Russian (which was what they were speaking) but their good humor transcended language. And the price was not at all outrageous, so thumbs up on...

The food I would give 4* The only thing that meat was not well cooked, she offered to take it and prepare well. They have menu, but at the day when we had celebration prices in menu and real prices were different 😀 example Bottle of wine in menu 28e, we had to pay 45e, just because the prices are growing so fast that they don’t have time to change them.
