I have been in this place many times, in the evenings when there is DJ performing at those times this place totally passes the vibes check. Great music and good drinks. But today just wanted to slip in to answer couple of emails and have a quick bite, around supper time. Unfortunately my appearance maybe became an issue to the following situation. I was dressed in the hoodie and jeans as just left the construction site, neat and tidy but not fancy. When I arrived I was seated at the table in the empty room at the back of the restaurant. I left my jacket next to me. After half an hour party of three was seated next to me, still in completely empty room, of course I rapidly started to take my overflowing jacket off the uni couch when unnecessarily coaxed to hurry up, as I was doing it, this was so uncalled for that I dropped my bag on the floor. I asked for the bill, the host then rapidly brought the bill and was asking me to settle it right away. I asked could I just finish my drink on that I got a response of “thank you” he then left, I then heard him saying in Russian ( I addressed him in Latvian) “who let her in?” On that the other waiter said “she just came in”. As it was something out normal practice. Was that because of the causal outfit, as on other occasions I have been dressed as one would when they are going out-out and never had this experience. Btw the food was good. Overall I would recommend this place, but not for food consumption just for drinks and...
Read moreWe had the most horrible experience today in here, and I cant recommend this restaurant to anybody. We arrived 19.00 with a reservation, a group of 4 people. The restaurant was almost empty, well under 50% of tables filled. The waitress did not tell us about any delays in advance. First we all wanted to order sushi, but in the order situation waitress told us that they do not have sushi rice. We ordered other main courdes (salad, soup and pasta). The food took 1 hour and 15 minutes to come!! And after that we had to wait 45 minutes to get our check. The waitres kept on avoiding us, running past our table avoiding eye contact and our attempt on making contact. No refunds or any compensation was offered (expect free shots, which we would not have wanted since 2/4 of us were sober). Waitress (those rare times when she failed to avoid us) kept laughing/smiling and putting the blame on slow kitchen employees, not taking any responsibility on the situation and offering any compensation. Food was mediocre. Total of 2 hours waiting time and lack of any basic customer service skills in a half empty restaurant is just unacceptable! You can find many good restaurants on Riga, but this...
Read moreIt was a holiday morning, as we had half an hour to spare before our event. The cafe was located very close to our scheduled gathering. The service was top-notch. The waitress was already by the door greeting every guest. There weren’t many people yet, but they did offer some food. We, however, declined and opted for just coffee. The latte was average – neither better nor worse than elsewhere. It was nice that they served an aperitif—a small shot of Riga Black Balsam—perfectly timed for the February chill. There was also an interesting “Napoleon” pastry dessert meant for two, served in a unique way—in a small dish/bowl. We sat by the window with a view of the side of Dome Church, right in the heart of Old Riga. The atmosphere was still quiet and peacefully sleepy, as is typical in the morning. The most curious detail was that the lights in the men's restroom go out so quickly. It seems that if you use it constantly, you have to keep moving—almost like you have to jump. Overall, it’s a great place very close to the heart of Old...
