Staff is very friendly and kind but appears to be slightly overworked, especially if many customers are visiting at once.
The food, however, is amazing. My friend and I went to this restaurant expecting that the food would be alright given that the prices are lower than other restaurants further north in Old Town. We were positively surprised by the quality of the food, and I must say that this is the type of food that many other restaurants would charge you double the price for! My absolute favourite was the creamy chicken pasta with truffle oil. I can also recommend their white wine, and their kvass.
The restaurant is located right next to Riga Castle and an adjoining little park, which makes for a nice and pleasant view.
When my friend and I were in Riga, we went to have dinner at this restaurant every day because of the relatively low price tag and good food. Unfortunately we were not able to try the rye garlic bread as the restaurant was all out of them due to the large number of customers, but we very much enjoyed the food nonetheless.
I thoroughly recommend this place to anyone who wants a good and hardy meal for an...

Even though the quality is near high end restaurant, prices are very affordable. And if you come across the waiter REIMO, you scored big. This fluent in English gentlemen is very polite and part of the reason I visited here twice.
If you are looking for more authentic food, this is the place for you. Situated across from a historic castle, the place offers both indoor and outdoor seating.
By far the best Goulash is Eastern Europe, dorado fish plate also comes with a decent size fish unlike the other tourist trap restaurants in the center which serve tiny fish.
I am having hard time to complain about anything for this restaurant, maybe WiFi signal isn’t enough in outdoor seating but Reimo the waiter offered his own hotspot to please me.
Great experience and will look no further, this is the...
Read moreOur visit to Vecmeita ar kaķi was a real highlight. We sat outside – quiet, cozy, and with a lovely view of the old town. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, just the right place to unwind.
The garlic bread was absolutely outstanding – crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. Honestly, we’d come back just for that. The other dishes were also fresh, honest, and very reasonably priced.
The service was friendly and pleasantly low-key. It’s not a touristy place, but one with real character where you feel genuinely welcome.
One note: the restaurant closes at 8 PM, so make sure to come a bit earlier.
Conclusion: If you’re in Riga and want a relaxed meal in a cozy setting – this is the place. And yes, the garlic...
