Our first meal in Latvia was at this restaurant. We had just left our Airbnb for lunch and our host has recommended Lido for cheap Latvian cuisine, and since I'd heard Latvian cuisine is very good for bigger meals and we were starving, we decided to come here. First impressions: great decor, great overall atmosphere. This is a self service buffet (although not 100%, there are servers to put the food in your plate) and we had no idea how to proceed (some places are money first, others are serve first), so we asked the lady at the pay desk. Very basic English on her part but we managed to understand each other. The server who filled our plates had no English skills whatsoever but there are labels near the food so you know what is what. There is aaaaalot to choose from, and since they don't speak very good English, just go with what the label says and what you think looks tasty! 2 dishes brimming with food + 2 multivitamin juices + 2 cheesecake slices for dessert = 10,65€. Overall very cheap and worth the experience. My sole reason for the 4 star review instead of 5 is the low effort the waiters make to understand you and make themselves understandable. I've heard it's very common in Latvia but I haven't been here long enough to...
Read moreFantastic! My husband and I went here for lunch after having learned about it on a travel vlogger’s YouTube channel. They offer an impressive variety of Latvian food at very reasonable prices in an open cafeteria format Pick up a tray upon entering, then wander about and see what’s on offer. Labels describe the dishes in Latvian, English, and Russian and clearly display the price of each individual dish. Some staff speak English, too. We’re big dudes who can put away some food and we filled up on about 20€. I particularly enjoyed a creamy chicken and mushroom dish and was pleasantly surprised by the cold beet soup. A dessert looked like tiramisu, but was topped with pistachios and had a slightly fruity zing — both delightful variations. Hubs enjoyed kabači, a zucchini stuffed with meat (pork?). We would definitely return! Tip - let them put your food on a reusable dinner plate because it’s the right thing to do environmentally speaking and because they, like all places here, rightly charge for single-use plastics; learn...
Read moreThis Lido restaurant really captured Latvia on a plate for us. Jurius ( I hope I spelt his name right ) One of the chefs and servers behind the food was exceptional friendly and helpful. He help explained the food and a handful of the food was made by his grandma who still works there! The decor and ambiance of the place helped to add to experience too!
The food is very good for the price point and very generous. We had the cold beetroot soup and stuffed zucchini, salad, kvass ( Latvian soft drink) and the pork ribs. All of it was so tasty and none of them disappointed in flavour. After going to other lido restaurants, we kept coming back to this one.
Couldn’t recommend any other restaurant but Lido Dzirnavas if you want a taste of Lativan grandmamas cooking and excellent service...
