Went yesterday midday to try their salad/vegetarian lunch buffet with my wife and our friends. The lounge is on the 6th floor of the newer Victory Annex of the Eastern and Oriental (E&O) Hotel.
First, let me talk about the beautiful sea view on one side and a beautiful lush small courtyard on the other with orchids and a gorgeous small fountain, perfect for photos and feeding your 'Gram..hehe. I sure did. 😏😉
Now, let's talk about the spread. It was a smaller buffet with fresh fruits, mixed greens and accouterments for a delicious and healthy salad. Also, two types of soup. I had the potato leek, which was creamy. It pairs well with the garlic bread slices. Also had vegetarian empanadas (a Mexican stuffed pastry) and enchiladas (also a Mexican dish).
Besides those, they also had fresh salmon sashimi (which my wife and our friends went for). One mark is that while at first, the sashimi was cold, later servings proved not so much as my friend even had to inform the waiter that the sashimi wasn't cold. Also, they remarked that some of the bread wasn't crispy on the outside, so our server went and had it toasted for us.
Beverages included what I believed was lemon cucumber iced water, as well as coffee and tea (a cappuccino machine would have been nice, as this is a nice hotel).
Desserts included strawberry pana cotta, matcha cheesecake, an ice cream bar with five flavors pre-scooped and decorated with the element of their respective flavors: banana, coffee, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and corn.
After lunch, the Mrs. and I went outside (yes there is both indoor and outdoor seating on the patio overlooking the sea). Plus, there was a mid-size infinity pool next to the seating area affording more beautiful photographic opportunities with my beloved. I also took some photos of the fountain and orchids on the other side. (sorry I didn't get more pictures of the food or the ice cream bar, next time). Or better yet, come and enjoy this buffet at the beautiful Planter's Lounge and you can fill both your stomachs and your IG feeds. 😉😂👌 Plus, the hotel and the grounds offer ample opportunities to...
Read morePlanters Lounge at the Eastern & Oriental‘s sixth floor was the place to get in for coffee or tea all day and that is where they had their happy hour at 17:00 daily.
It also had dining options, I believe. Not sure about the lunch options.
Overlooking Penang Strait, it sure was a beautiful view.
The child and I came here thrice during our stay, two days for their happy hour, and one morning for their breakfast.
The breakfast was a continental offering, with bread, croissants, juices, coffees, teas, fresh fruits, preserved fruits, dried fruits, nuts, cereals, milk, muffins, pastries and such. Plenty for the meat eaters as well.
I relished the lychees, dried apricots, and mangoes. Sipped on espresso and mint tea. The child got himself some toast, muffin and crackers but barely ate anything. He was enjoying playing with truck and bus and hopping and skipping around.
The lounge inside seating of the lounge is a mix of sleek and classic look, unlike the overall hotel look and feel, which is more British / colonial/classic looking.

Read moreI recently booked a candlelight dinner at the Planters Lounge, E&O Hotel, with high expectations, especially for its renowned sunset view. While the ambiance was undeniably beautiful, the dining experience fell short. The food was underwhelming and overpriced, which was disappointing for a 5-star luxury hotel.
I noticed a lack of attention to detail from the F&B staff, such as not refilling water for guests automatically. Additionally, the presentation of the dishes was concerning—yellowing broccoli leaves were served, something that should never happen in a 5 stars hotel lounge. My beef dish was overcooked and tough, making it a poor dining experience overall.
While the setting and atmosphere were lovely, the food and service need significant improvement to meet the standards of a 5-star venue. I hope the management team addresses these issues to enhance the overall experience. For now, it was just...
