REPLY TO THE OWNER'S COMMENT: -- Dear Owner of Forest Canteen: Thank you for your reply. There are a couple of things that I need to address pertaining to your recent reply to my Google review: (1) To my knowledge, there are restaurants in Penang island that use AAA Fragrant Rice and Organic Egg, as well as serve rice sets as you do. Similarly, they're also serving different kind of rice sets with a main dish - either chicken, fish or pork patty, a bowl of white rice with a Sunny side egg on top of it, a bowl of soup and cut fruits. Some even offered a small plate of side dish or pickles.
Nonetheless, the portion is bigger and the price is lower than yours. Well, if you ask me, there's no right or wrong. Different business owners adopt different marketing and pricing strategies. Consumers have the rights to choose and pay for what they think it's value for money.
(2) In my previous Google review, I didn't mention anything about your side dishes. I wrote "The Simple Fried Egg Set Meal costs RM15/set...." and this is referred to your Signature Omelette Rice Sets priced at RM15/set. I did mention clearly 2 key words which are "Set Meal" and "costs RM15/set".
We're not illetercy and we understand your daily menu written in English perfectly. Thus, kindly do not divert the topic and twist my words. 🙂
Last but not least, every consumer or human being has the rights to comment despite it might not be always a positive comment with 5 stars rating. Business owners should respect our freedom of speech and in your case, I hope that you could take my constructive criticism with an open heart.
I'm not the only one who left a 1 or 2 stars review for Forest Canteen. No?
Thank you! We ordered the daily set meal. Food portion is small with the prices charged. Although there's free refill of white rice, the rice portion that they served in a bowl is also small. And no one informed us about the free refill of white rice, we discovered a rice cooker there and we asked. All in all, not worth the value. Set meal with chicken, fish or prawn are from RM20/set and above. Simple Fried Egg Set Meal costs RM15/set. The cakes are mediocre and rather...
Read moreForest Canteen has an excellent environment with garden and sea views. The sea view is bright while the garden view is calming. It's a tough choice, but you can't go wrong with either!
One standout feature is the free refill of rice🍚🍚🍚 which satisfies my family's needs. My family and I often visit, and our favorite part is trying different delicious soups each time🍲 The staff is incredibly friendly, making the whole dining experience even better. Oh ya! I highly recommend trying their snack, dessert and softserve too! Sorry, it’s so delicious that I can’t even choose🤤
Overall, Forest Canteen is a place where you can enjoy a delicious food with a view that suits your mood. I'll be back for more serene garden moments and the vibrant sea views. Don't miss this unique cafe in Penang! Very worth...
Read moreForest Canteen is a lovely cafe next to E&O Hotel, occupying downstairs of Penang Bowl. Quite a chill place with plenty of greenery inside, with a sea view in certain seatings area. When I visit on a Saturday 3:30pm, the place is half filled which is just nice. Unfortunately, half of the main course is sold out. They have a small menu of main course compared to other cafe and most of the food is Chinese style. I tried the brownie set with the ice cream of the day (teh tarik flavour) at RM22 and upgraded my drinks to hot latte with RM2 extra. Taste wise it is quite decent. Latte was on point. However….. the place can get quite noisy if there are a lot of people. Maybe also worthy to check with instagram page to know what is the menu before you visit? WiFi is not very...
