I recently visited Tai Tong Dim Sum restaurant in Georgetown, Penang, and was blown away by the quality and variety of dim sum dishes they offered. The restaurant was bustling with activity and a lively atmosphere, with servers briskly moving around the tables and the sound of steam trolleys and chopsticks clinking. The standout dish for me was the char siew bao, which was simply outstanding. The fluffy and moist bun stuffed with tender and sweet barbecued pork steamed to perfection was well-balanced, and it was clear that the chef used only the freshest and highest quality ingredients. The service at Tai Tong was prompt and attentive, with servers checking on me regularly to ensure I was satisfied with my meal. They also knew about the menu and made helpful recommendations based on my preferences. The restaurant's location was ideal, situated in the heart of Georgetown, close to many other popular tourist attractions. The prices at Tai Tong were very reasonable for the food quality and the service provided, making it an excellent value for money. Overall, I highly recommend Tai Tong Dim Sum restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic and delicious dim sum experience in Georgetown, Penang. The quality of the food, attentive service, and reasonable prices make it an excellent choice for locals and tourists alike.

Penang's most authentic Cantonese dim-sum tai tong Restaurant, The delivery of dim-sum in the trolley is full of old Hong Kong flavor. The whole environment still retains the characteristics of the snack cart. The staff will push all kinds of dim-sum around the restaurant. When passing through each table, they will stop to introduce to customers, which is super humane. There are many kinds of fried and steam dim-sum here with a pot of tea is definitely best match. Recommendation: 1. Steamed chicken feet: There is no soft and glutinous bottom line ,sauce is deeply tasty. 2. Duck noodles: The noodles are nice and the meat is soft and glutinous. 3. Shrimp Dumpling Emperor: Shrimp is fresh and elastic with slightly thick skin wrapping. 4. Egg tarts: The skin is very crispy soft and delicious 5. Soy sauce spareribs, roasted wheat and quicksand buns have a Hong Kong-style flavor. Environment: There is a large fan, sunshade curtain and it doesn't feel hot when you dine in . Seats are placed casually depending on the number of guests. Taste: The taste is authentic Service: Very kind and basically acceptable Feeling: The atmosphere of the strong Hong Kong-style tea restaurant Tai Tong Restaurant 45, Lebuh Cintra, 10100 George Town, Pulau Pinang. Business hours: 6AM -2.30PM, 6.15PM - 11.30PM

Update: Dim sum craving on the last day of the year. Facing the holiday crowds and traffic are a scary thought. Standing in a snaking long line on reaching there a no-no on Sunday morning. So we ordered a Grab delivery. The food came in pretty quickly and each item was well packed and the portion sizes were just right. Our order - a mix of sew mai and prawn dumplings, spare rib with bean sauce, a mix of fried radish cake and fried taro ball, big pork bun and golden custard bun. All of them were excellent though we relished the radish cake and taro ball the most. The sew mai is a favourite of the family and didn't disappoint. We also enjoy Tai Tong's custard buns always. A still warm bun oozing sweet custard from within. A practical challenge to eat.... but what a joy 😊 😋. Older review: Has to be one of the best places in town for dim sum. We were lucky to go in early for breakfast and didn't have to wait very long. The queues starting forming soon enough and it got pretty crowded. But that is also the charm of the place. It is buzzing and loud, the service may feel borderline brusque and the restaurant is a bit chaotic and untidy. But hey, you're there for the dim sum and they are top-notch. That's the magnet that draws the hungry droves in. We loved it. And the taste still lingers 😋.

20 Oct 2024 We were quite skeptical and almost not visited this dim sum restaurant when we saw the reviews. We visited since it was very near for us. Nostalgic dim sum place with dim sum variety on trolley. The staff will come to you for you to choose your dim sum based on what’s available on the trolley. Har Gow (dumpling with prawn), Siew Mai (wrapped minced pork meat), Char Siew Bao / BBQ Pork Bao (minced pork in sweet sauce) etc are common dim sum essential. Hard to go wrong. Dim sum is associated as breakfast, hence, by dinner, many items were sold out e.g. egg tart, porridge, chee cheong fun etc. I have had so many dim sum as Asian, I won’t say their dim sum are must have. The taste and texture are okay. We had 2 rounds of Siew Mai and Har Gow. Won’t order the other prawn dumpling RM7.50 again since it’s the same filling as Har Gow. We also had Char Siew Bao, Salted Custard Bun & Fried Carrot Cake. 8 items and we were full. Fried Carrot Cake is tasty. Order slowly and don’t over order at one go. Unfortunately the staff doesn’t tell you if the quantity is too much for 2 pax. I have seen the table next to us with 2 adults and 2 very young children with a table full of food and left with many food left. Some were hardly touched. They didn’t even do takeaway. What a waste!

Located near Kimberley Street, Tai Tong serves up a variety of dim sums. After reading up on the reviews and having a local recommend us there, my partner and I decided to give it a try! We ordered our usual favourites in which we felt would best determine the standards of the dim sums: Chee Cheong Fun (Rice Noodles), Har Gao (Prawn Dumplings), Chicken Claw/Feet and the Fried Beancurd Roll. The best of it all for me was the Chicken Feet/Claw. It had the closest taste to the ones that I had since I was young. The rest were overrated. The chee cheong fun with prawns were lacking in ingredients, was slightly mushy and sauce was too sweet for my likings. As for the Har Gaos, the skin was thick and had a flour taste to it. The beancurd skin was just alright, not flavourful. Our guess as to why it is pretty well-rated and crowded is because there are very little dim sum restaurants around in Georgetown and this is probably the best and oldest brand out of all of them. Will this be a go to when I visit Georgetown again? Maybe? If I do have some random cravings, or else, it’s not a must have. 😬

Very close to giving a 5, a 4.6 from me for now. Location is in George Town and close to my accommodation at Areca Hotel Penang. I arrived with no queue and immeidately served to table at L1. I arrived around 730am on a Sat, for anyone's reference if they are interested. Best advice to reach before 8am because that's when the crowd starts to build up really fast. I love their service crew. Everyone who served me were very friendly, like talking to my auntie or uncle. Ambience was great for me. It was drizzling when i was dining and windy at L1. Lighting was adequate, temperature was just right and ordering is systematic and easy. You can refill your pot of tea with hot water at water dispenser. It's self service. You may choose to order some food from kitchen that is situated all the way in, or order via the push carts. They have the standard fried and steamed selections. Do bring along your ordering form so the service crew can update quantity for your billing. Overall, a pleasant experience with Tai Tong Restoran. ❤️
