This was a wonderful place to discover. The Loft situated just off a busting road in Love Lane is one to visit if you need a break from the hustle and bustle of Penang. The modern urban decor with industrialist features will make you feel instantly calm.
The drinks - a wonderful selection of drinks was available, my partner and I tried a few cocktails and they were all delicious. The Long Island Iced Tea was quite strong so would be nice to see it made a bit more traditionally but the mojito was delicious.
The food - The Italian inspired menu definitely has a great variety of options to choose from. The starters that my partner ordered (focaccia and dips & calamari) both were sensational. The focaccia bread is made in-house and tasted amazing, we just wished there was more of it to go with the dips provided. The 2 pizzas that we ordered were top notch, better than some of the pizzas I’ve had in my own country.
The staff - All of the workers were super friendly and helpful. One staff member was confused by the cocktails we ordered so we though he might be new but another person helped him out. The staff did keep coming over to check how everything was perhaps a little too often, it was borderline annoying and interrupting when I was having a conversation with my partner. I did appreciate that they asked us for feedback on the pizza and if we thought there needed to be any improvement - no improvement needed for the pizzas though.
The only other negative was that our food arrived all relatively quickly together, once our entree had arrived within about 5 minutes when we had just started them our mains (pizzas) arrived. Then once we finished our entrees and they cleared it away, the wait person shoved our pizzas in front us almost like thy were forcing us to eat it straight away. The was a little annoying as we would have liked some time between the courses to enjoy our drinks and not feel so rushed.
Overall a really wonderful place and I’d recommend and...
Read moreAfter reading its raving reviews, I decided to give The Loft a try. From its exterior, it is notably the better decorated restaurants and bars in Love Lane. The 2-3 shop lots renovated for this establishment are nothing short of impressive. Parking is ample for a charge of RM 5-8 next to the restaurant. Otherwise, park by the road at your own risk.
The staff are friendly, mostly. They don't provide complimentary water unlike most places though. Music and ambiance are fine. I noticed a stage, perhaps reserved for live bands on some evenings. I came for an early dinner, at around 6 pm. I thought I should reserve a table in case it was going to be crowded but the restaurant assured me that I can just walk in. When I arrived, they almost couldn't find me a table for my party. Thankfully they found one.
Food was alright, generally. The highlight was undoubtedly the clam chowder served in sourdough bread and the tiramisu cake. Since I was driving, I skipped the alcohol and went with the traditional option. Carbonara was great, though the chicken was a tad dry. Salmon was passable, with mediocre vegetable sides.
I think this is a good place for a chill vibe and great desserts. Nothing much to say about the mains though. Perhaps I would try the wood oven pizza next time, if there's a next time.
The price came up to RM 45+ per person. Suppose in this part of the city, it's pretty acceptable. One of the waiters served with a bright smile. Shame I didn't...

They offer a very high quality Italian cuisine. Like Pizza from an original pizza oven, pasta, salads and steaks. They have a very great beverage menu. You can get different kinds of beer, good wine, liquor, good chocktails and other drinks.
The price is very fair.
We had a Pizza, which was very delicious and the pizzadough was perfect. We also had an very good Salad and a tiramisu as dessert. The coffee is also very nice.
Everything was really very delicious and recommendable. I really recommend the tiramisu, it is authentic Italian. Homemade by this restaurant.
The food was delicious and they used very fresh ingredients.
The stuff is friendly and courteous. They can read your needs from your eyes. We had an very nice conversation with some of their waiter. And the manager and the boss is very friendly. They want you to feel good at their place.
The Loft is located at the Love Lane. Next to the famous Chulia Street on Penang Island. Next to this restaurant, there are a lot of bars and caffees. So this restaurant is perfect to start a nice weekend evening.
If my recommendation was helpful for you please...
