Unfortunately we did not enjoy our stay at this property.
First of all, I would say the service was really good via WhatsApp as they sent us lots of information for local restaurants etc which was helpful. However, that’s where the positives end.
The noise was exceptionally loud as the floor boards are wooden with no carpet throughout the property. You can also hear absolutely everything people are saying and doing. There is no security or check in desk so there is no one to enforce the quiet times. The people above our room were shouting and talking loudly until past 12am which meant we couldn’t sleep. I was then woken up again at 6am with someone’s alarm from a different room.
There are other self check in hotels in George Town which have carpets throughout (excluding rooms) which are MUCH quieter and offer better value stay.
Location was good and it was relatively clean but again, bathrooms in other hotels in George Town were better and cleaner.

Read more100% recommend Aayu Chulia. First and foremost, their customer service was flawless; they communication was speedy, informative, professional, and personable. My room (#13) was homely, clean, and practable. The air con worked perfectly and was super quiet. Every floor has an ample amount of private and well maintained toilet and shower units. They provided ample and accessible toilet roll, shampoo/body wash, good hairdryers, and long length mirrors. The communal kitchen is equipped with on demand cold and hot water, kettle, a fridge and microwave. The building and decor is simple and timeless. The upper floors have gorgeous classic wooden floors, which may be the original wooden floors. Check-in and check out was seemless and easy. To top things off, it was great value for money despite it being in such a prime location! 5 stars. I will be certain to recommend it to any future traveller(s)...
Read moreFor the rate you pay and the location right in the heart of Chulia street, Aayu Chulia will have few competitors. The check in communication was seamless and warm (a personalised card with an invitation to indulge in some nice bread in the common area). Towels, toothbrushes and even earplugs were provided. Bathroom facilities such as warm showers and clean toilets were great. Room had sufficient lighting and power sources. A jug and cups were also provided (free hot chocolate - Milo, and tea were in the common area downstairs)
Although there were a bit of ants scurrying about the counter top in the room. The covers were a tad rough on the inside and I had to flip it to get past the irritation. And at 1 point prior to going to bed, the aircon dripped for about a minute onto the edge of the bed. The staff were very attentive otherwise and I'm sure they will look into the issues I...
