Canton Route 廣東道 — Restaurant in Johor

This is one of the worst dim sum experiences I’ve had in JB. The restaurant itself looks nice and has a comfortable setting, but the food quality was extremely disappointing and completely fell below expectations.

The He Xiang glutinous rice chicken was the biggest letdown. The rice was hard and dry, as if it had been sitting there for a long time, and there was barely any chicken inside. It felt more like leftovers than a freshly prepared dish.

The so-called “turnip cake with plenty of ingredients” was another joke. I really don’t know what “plenty” they are referring to, because it tasted bland and empty. Honestly, even the carrot cakes sold by roadside hawkers are way better—more flavor, more texture, and much more satisfying.

Then came the char siu buns. The skin was ridiculously thick, and nothing like the soft, fluffy Cantonese-style bao one would expect. The filling was meager, and overall it just felt like eating a ball of dough.

To top it off, the prices are on the higher side, which makes the whole experience even more disappointing. It’s not just terrible—it’s extremely terrible. For the same amount of money, you could easily find far better dim sum at street shops or other established dim sum...

Came here after reading the reviews. But I seriously think the reviews were not genuine and were reviewed by paid google users.

The food here was not impressive. A basic "hand made" red bean bun doesn't look hand made at all. The bun itself has a very thick layer of pastry and the red bean paste was hard to swallow bun itself was very chewy and doesn't taste hand made at all.

Pan fried carrot cake fell apart easily and is a little more mushy compared to the usual ones I had.

Was apprehensive about this place due to the polarizing reviews. Anyways, the food is not terrible, but it’s not fantastic either, especially compared to other dim sum places jb has(those outside ksl). The har gaw skin was a little hard, the Siew Mai had a weird texture(something hard n bouncy in the middle), but I liked the 避风塘carrot cake.
