Famosa Seafood 古城海鲜饭店 — Restaurant in Johor

Fresh seafood to enjoy in a clean and comfortable restaurant setting, but food quality is below average. There's ample parking outside the restaurant. Food service is quick and the service staff are very attentive. We ordered salted egg crabs and chilli crabs, cereal prawns, steamed seabass, gong gong, prawn omelette and the signature tofu. However, the quality of food was disappointing. The salted egg crabs didn't taste much of salted egg but just creamy. Nonetheless, the crabs were fresh and meaty and still enjoyable. The cereal prawns were dry and lacked the fragrance of any butter. We didn't like the signature tofu as it was overpriced for 4 pathetic pieces of tofu, which were hard and dry. The only dish we liked was the steamed seabass. The fish was fresh and was steamed to the right tender texture. Food was good, nothing to complain. We ordered lala pot one set, and salty egg crabs. Good taste and fresh seafood. That time got promotion of coconut shake small cup rm1.88. the only weird problem was that my kids were given free 2-3 scoops melted half vanilla ice cream while we were all eating half way. Firstly it was already melted half very watery. Secondly , served too early during meals means that spoilt the kids appetite as they wanted to eat ice cream first especially it was melted badly. I appreciate the free ice cream but hope in future restaurant can be more considerate for such matter. Otherwise, we enjoyed the good meals overall. We still happy to come...

We ordered steamed clams and lala. Upon cracking open the clams that were supposed to be cooked, a gush of black bloody liquid rushed out. We were so taken aback. It smelled off too (like really smelly). We tried to give it a second chance and asked the staff to cook it more but to no avail it still tasted weird. One of us had an upset stomach afterwards.

Did not see any live aquariums with live seafood... so questionable freshness of the seafood, for a seafood place.
