I almost always forget about this place since it’s tucked away in a corner of the mall, but this time, I made a special trip to try it out – and I’m glad I did!
Ordering is now fully digital, with a QR code system for placing orders. If you’re undecided, their combination platters are a great way to sample different roast meats. The Danggui Duck is outstanding – infused with herbal flavors, featuring crispy skin and tender meat. The Char Siew has that perfect balance of fatty goodness, a slight char-grilled aroma, and a hint of sweetness. The Roast Pork is incredibly crispy with juicy meat, making it a must-try.
We also tried the Yong Tau Foo (large portion with 8 pieces), which included bitter gourd, eggplant, tofu, and red chili. Each piece was generously stuffed with meat and drizzled with a flavorful sauce—an unexpected but delightful surprise!
From the Dim Sum menu, the Fried Carrot Cake was a standout, thanks to the generous amount of crispy pork lard that added so much flavor. The carrot cake itself was perfectly fried to a crisp. We also ordered the Steamed Glutinous Rice, which came in a sizable portion packed with chicken, Chinese sausage, and mushrooms—rich and delicious.
Price-wise, it's noticeably cheaper than their Singapore outlet, making it a great value for the quality of food. With its convenient location near the immigration checkpoint, it’s definitely...
Read moreIt's not my intention to bring other's attention to the quantity of the food, after all, if they taste great, it's always value for the bucks. However, not only is the quantity pathetic, the taste is also not up to the "Golden Bull Award" that it was awarded in 2020. Maybe it's the other "bull-s" kind of award that they've won.
I did check before I ordered if it would be enough for 2 person, the person who took my order (you can see from the receipt), said, don't order the 双拼盘 (around $26rm), you can order the 三拼盘 ($52rm after tax, 48rm before tax). I'm like how much is that in terms of quantity, she mentioned that for the 双拼盘, the bbq pork has about 16 slices.. I'm like, oh, I'll order the 三拼盘 instead. Lo and behold, the 三拼盘's bbq pork doesn't even have 16 slices.. it's pathetic.
By the way, the total weight of the meat that I brought home was around 241g (weight of the box is probably 15 - 20g), so, 220g of these meat cost RM$52?! It's ridiculous. 1 kg of roast meat would then cost RM$236! 🥵😵😵💫🤯
I deeply regretted not reading the reviews before heading to tabao (take away) home for my folks. I think they'd definitely (dare) not serve this portion if you were dining in at the restaurant.
Don't ever make my mistake.
P.S. I did ask the cashier who took my order if the 三拼盘 (S) is this size, she was clearly uncomfortable and humming and hawing in...
Read moreMediocre dimsum, but pretty good roast meats.
We came on the recommendation of our friends that the 3 types of roast meats are great, and they are.
We ordered the roast meat platter, yam puff, fried char siew bun, char siew chee cheong fan, congee, lo mai gai, har gao, siew mai, and creamy salted egg yolk bun (liu sha bao)
The yam puff was tasty, and the exterior was fairly fluffy, but the layer of yam was too thick, overpowering the char siew taste. The same goes for the fried char siew bun.
Siew mai and har gao were normal but not fantastic. All the har gao had a hole in them, so I can't tell if they were supposed to have juice/ gravy in them. I would very much prefer them to have gravy in them, obviously.
The chee cheong fan was one of the nicer dishes. The texture and thickness of the sheets were just right, and there was an abundance of Gravy on the plate.
The lo mai gai was also one of my preferred dishes. The rice was sticky and balanced all around. There was a chunk of chicken meat, Chinese sausage, and mushroom that ensured there's a good amount of ingredients for each bite of the rice.
The creamy salted egg yolk bun was a huge disappointment. It was absolutely NOT creamy. The salted egg yolk cream was already hardened (see photo), and it didn't even taste well with the bun.
May return for the...
