Sushi King City Square — Restaurant in Johor

At first glance, this place really sets the stage for what could’ve been a nice meal.😍😍 The ambience whispers “we tried”, and the staff they were certainly present👍👍👍

We had the pleasure of sitting down and soaking in the atmosphere for just about an hour BEFORE the food arrived hehe it was a truly immersive waiting experience. It was almost like a social experiment when everyone around us trying to flag down the waiters, bonding through shared confusion. Maybe it was an their own take on community building?

Service-wise, it felt like they were busy discovering rice cultivation techniques or fishing for tuna off the coast of Japan before serving the sushi. If so, hats off for the commitment to freshness. 😍😍😍Otherwise, might be time to check if the kitchen staff are still on the premises.

As for the sushi, they were not offensive, not inspiring, just sort of… there, especially the salmon. it tastes just like salmon, completely raw, untouched from the ocean, solidly inoffensive mediocrity. If you enjoy your sushi with a side of existential patience and don’t mind reliving the concept of time dilation, this is definitely the place. 👍👍👍🙏

i have been to Sushi King in KL and had high expectations when i decided to have my late lunch in City Square JB. my husband went to the door to alert staff that we are waiting. the staff (a short hair lady) looked at my husband from head to toe with the most arrogant expression and did not smile at all. she showed a hand gesture telling him to wait. we waited for another at least 10mins before the same lady who seems to have forgotten us, saw us standing outside and gestured to us to go in again looking at my husband with the same expression as earlier on. we expected to be seated with the table cleaned because i saw her wiping the table but it wasnt even decently cleaned, chopsticks, forks and spoons are also not topped up! when they sent our drinks i asked another lady to get some chopsticks, and she got another much younger staff to do it. they also dont have much sushi choices, it was mostly edamame, we got bored with the choices and tried to order some but it took a little bit too long so when we got the order, we ate it and got the bill. the atmosphere in the restaurant was also very dull and not lively at all. this experience really dropped my expectations for Sushi King. hope City Square Sushi King Outlet can do something about...

I'm not sure how the overall rating is above 4 for this restaurant, which led us to give this restaurant a try. I should have known when I saw the salmon pieces dripping orange liquid onto the plate on the conveyor belt. The salmon flesh looked opaque...not translucent like how fresh salmon of sashimi grade should appear. One bite and I knew it's off. The meat was hard to cut through and it was warmish. Tasted like frozen salmon that had been recently microwaved to thaw before serving. Disappointing. How can a sushi restaurant do this to their customers? My daughter's maki was shocking too. The nori seaweed was cut with a blunt knife and it was the worst cut maki with jagged edges sticking out of the sides. How can you call this Japanese food with such poor knife skills? I should have taken a photo of it. My hubby ordered tempura and they served a bowl of rice first and he waited for 15 min for the tempura to be served to eat it with chilled rice.
