This is a cafe with very simple vibes, seemingly romanticising the passing of time with their humble decor. Steps are really tall and steep, so getting up/down could be a little scary. The place is small so seats are relatively limited. They also sell some plants, trinkets, vintage film cameras etc.
My friends and I ordered iced coffee, cafe au lait and an orange juice, and for food we ordered a mushroom baked rice, Japanese curry baked rice and mentaiko udon.
Drinks are okay, though we hope they could have be in bigger glasses as we drank half by the time our food was served. I had the orange juice, it wasn't sweet or sour, had a slight citrus bitterness to it. It was orange-y but tasted diluted, so not quite the rich, sweet citrus experience I was hoping it would be.
However, the food tasted great, and serving size seemed decent enough. We all agree that the dishes were cooked really well, and I was very surprised by how good their roasted vegetables were in the curry rice. (I'd ordered the Japanese curry baked rice, but they gave me the normal Japanese curry rice. Didn't bother to ask them to change since they've already prepared and served it. And to be fair, no regrets in doing so.) The soft boiled egg was perfectly cooked as well, with gorgeous, runny yolk. The curry rice in hindsight, though it looked like a big plate, could have had a little more chicken and mushroom...

Coupled with groovy tunes in the background, its Japanese cuisine brings a sense of comfort and warmth.
The ๐๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ ๐จ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ป is just as what one would expect โ springy noodles and thick curry gravy with potatoes and carrots. Keeping things homely, the potatoes and carrots were firm to bite but soft on the inside, and the curry was mildly thick and just salty enough to satiate oneโs hunger. Just as is the traditional way, there are tender chicken pieces scattered in the curry, and with a sprinkle of green onions as the finishing.
As for the ๐ฃ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป, it was a little of a letdown that the custard pudding was more firm than smooth, but its other components, the walnuts, the dollop of fresh cream and glaze of creme caramel did blend well together. The caramel though fairly sweet, was balanced out by the cream, but it would have elevated the dish more had it been crystallised on the puddingโs surface.
This being a coffeeshop, their signature ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฝ ๐๐ผ๐ ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐๐ผ๐ณ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฒ is also worth trying. Their house blend gives off a momentary bitterness and a lingering faint aroma...

The coffee here is really goodโsmooth and flavorful. I especially enjoyed their coffee float. But the real surprise for me was the lemon cakeโso refreshing and perfectly balanced. Itโs the kind of treat that makes you pause and appreciate every bite.
My friend and I ended up staying until closing time without even realizing it. The vibe was just that relaxing. I really appreciated how the staff didnโt rush us or say anything, even though we clearly lost track of time. I actually felt a little bad afterwards for not checking the closing time on Google Maps, so thank you to the team for being so kind and patient with us.
The interior is simple but charming, with cute details that make the space feel really inviting. If I had to point out one tiny thing, the stairs leading up are a bit narrowโbut honestly, once you're inside, it's completely worth the climb.
Definitely one of my new favorite spots in JB. Canโt wait...
