I visited Bomaby palace on evening of 17th June,2019. I wasn't in best clothes as I was going around places(tourist) whole day , my shirt was wrinkled and had few sweat patches. I had gone there for a take away with my father. The Malay lady at the counter asked us to wait and handed over the menu. Once we decided , I wanted to know the size of rotis so that we don't waste it after ordering if we are unable to eat. I approach a person(in his 40s) dressed in black/dark shade coat and inquired about the size very humbly. To my question he responded , 'you tell me what is the size of an average roti?' That was bit weird but I answered 'palm size'. To which he replied ,'exactly that is what you will get.' Then I went with him to the counter to place order and he asked me to go back where I was seated. As soon as I sat he called me to give the order. His gestures way of talking was very judgemental. I ordered 2 Missi roti,2 khasta roti,2 pudina paratha, palak chicken and kashmiri pulao. I ordered so many rotis because I was guided like that by this rude man. Then he asked me to sit and wait. Throughout the time I was noticing his fluctuation behavior with customers and your wall full of certificates and awards. He was judging people by their clothes and skin color. It was very easy to see arrogance on his face when talking to Indians in not so rich attire whereas when talking to white and rich looking people he was completely different. I am not here to play this sympathy game because of my skin color or whatever it is about the kind of staff you have and their behavior. The was an old man who straight away said no to customers and asked them to wait. When they said 'many tables are empty' he replied but we don't have staff we can't look after so many people please wait. If this is the case then why do you have so many tables when you don't have staff? Is this how you treat your customer in hospitality service? You have earned name but you guys lack basic mannerism. Your Khasta roti and Missi roti was horrible and very big in size , I wonder what's the size of a palm according to guy in his 40's maybe his arrogance is greater than his IQ which resulted in misguiding me. Palak chicken and Kashmiri Pulao was average. You cater so many people , famous personalities still you don't have humility. Me and my father were humiliated by that man. You people have the audacity to misbehave with your customers by discriminating them on basis of nationality , skin color and economic status. If I am not wrong Bombay is part of India and India runs under the preamble of the Constitution Of India which guides and prevent discrimination of any form. Leave the preamble it's basic humanity to treat people which respect. Shame on your staff and the team. You don't even bother to respond to the reviews. One more thing , i know it's waste of time but who keeps Beer Bottle in front of the idol of Ganesh ? Is it a new kind of prasad or what? You are so busy with your money making process that you started branding alcohol along with God? Have ever seen people offering alcohol to Ganesh bhagwaan? You can't respect your customer not even god. Kindly look into the matter...
Read moreThe setting: The restaurant is easily accessible via escalator/lift so if you have an elderly or disabled family member like us then it won't be a problem. The ambience is very nice with beautiful decorations & soft, non-disturbing music playing in the background.
The food: We were a group of 7 people & we ordered 7 briyani rice (1 portion is enough for 1 pax unless u like lots of rice), 1 kashmiri naan & garlic cheese naan (I've had better ones so their flat, not so generous cheese are kinda meeeh), chicken tikka & butter chicken (both super yums!), roganjosh lamb, grilled fish & prawns & fish something2. We thought it wouldn't be enough as they said 1 portion is good for 1 or 2 people but turns out we had an abundance of leftover still even after our male family members tried to eat as much as they could to prevent wastage but we still have a lot to bring home. Their tea is very rich & my family loves them but not me.
The staff: Their waiters are all really friendly & nice. Helpful in helping us choose our menu that night, and catered to my mum's fussy need. When we didn't like the tea they recommended, they gave us free tea that is up to our liking & that is very generous of them. But I can't say the same to their waitresses specifically the one who tend to their front desk & in charge of booking, she has such a btchy face with an attitude to match one. When we entered she just stared at us as if wondering what we were doing there & go about her stupid paperwork & a waiter came from the back of the restaurant to properly greet us & show us our table. Even when we left, not only could she not thank us, she couldn't even gave a smile. Someone like that shouldn't be the ones greeting guests but should post her as the garbage disposal person, I doubt even the dogs would like her as part of their team. Could have gotten 5 stars if not for...
Read moreIt was good but not amazing.
There were five of us. We shared 3 naans and 3 pilau rice.
The overall ambience of the place was good. I liked the wall art and figures dotted around including the pottery elephants standing guard at the entrance. The restaurant is on the first floor and accessible by lift as well as stairs.
The vegetarian selection was very good but the descriptions of the food could have been better. My wife had to ask how spicy her jalfrezi was going to be, for instance.
I had paneer passander and while it was tasty, I would've preferred my paneer cut smaller and cooked for a bit longer (I had 4 large cubes of paneer), The sauce was good but the pilau rice was salty which was a bit unpleasant.
The staff were over attentive. Our table were asked four times if our food was OK, and I felt there was always someone hovering around. The dish my curry came on was whipped away before I'd finished with it and the waiter also tipped the last of the rice (which I was sharing) onto my plate as if I was having trouble doing that myself.
Another waiter topped up my daughter's glass with tap water when we'd ordered mineral water specifically to avoid drinking the tap water.
Another guy, who I suspected was the manager, told us all about the different branches across the world, and our waiter made a point of telling us that all their chefs were Indian as if that were unusual.
I'd have preferred to have been left in peace to eat the food.
The garlic naan was good but not very garlicy.
The pistachio kulfi was very good.
I thought it telling that most of the 5 star reviews on Trip Advisor were from UK travellers and most of the 1 star reviews were from Indian travellers.
I didn’t think it was any more amazing than my local Indian...
