Hyatt’s diversification strategy is paying off – gone are the dated days of marbled pomposity. Hyatt adds a new crop of trendy buys and sub-Hyatt brands such as Centric which are stylish, bold, fun, irreverent, easier on the wallet and a shake-off of old money snobbish tag. Another strategy – check in and don’t step out. Blow it all out at their F&B outlets – Hyatt World discounts to hotel guests deals are effective baits. Why step out when you can slow movement your day away in absolute bliss and style? As it’s the newest kid in the block, expect modern touches – automated sleek water dispensers in hallway, heated Japanese-styled washlet toilets, Lavazza sci-fi looking coffee machines are a few examples.
Tanburi – Monstera prints may be a tad cliché but Tanburi revives it with style. You won’t miss Tanburi when you step into Hyatt Centric – it screams botanic green. So soothing on the eyes, so beckoning. Deep and colossal tandoori vats mean they’re serious about their tandoori. You really taste the deep smoky difference. Not an Indian food fan? You’ll be won over. The fusion takes knocked our socks off. We did 2 breakfasts sets at incredible value and added an ala carte avocado egg tandoori wrap that was so delish, we were tempted to order more.
Pool – Most swanky hotels in KL promise you grand views. Here – the twin towers greet you at the gorgeous rooftop pool.
21 Rooftop – 5 to 8 PM are the happiest hours indeed. Day and night – the lounge impress tirelessly. Sit out for a closer view of the twin towers lit up in ghost white in the dark. Sit in and watch the bar in daylight, then bathed in sultry orange hues in the evening, then the light dims to accentuate the electric blue turn red as the hours pass. Happy hour cocktail Vibe is reminiscent of a drink fished out of a bathtub, foam atop, rubber duckie as adornment. Vodka Afterglow is pretty too, along with Liquid Sunshine mocktail. Free flow quesadilla make easy tasty snacks. With such a beautiful venue – why do they only serve quesadillas? Staff are sweet here – Effie is a total bubbly.
Room – Rooms at Hyatt Centric tear up design briefs and redefine spaces. Small rooms are transformed with a renewed design thinking – breaking up the norm of a single bathroom with shower, toilet and mirror centrepiece. These are now standalone elements that redefine movements in the room. A sleek closet space with fridge and amenities divide the room – intrusive it is not. Again, movements in the room are redefined. All finishings are top notch – ambient lighting, numerous mirrors, sleek furniture elevates your stay in moments.
Il Forno - The most beautiful F&B in Hyatt Centric – Il Forno sets the stage for great pride in all things premium Italian. The space is so stunning – a cosy living room-esque lounge is housed in the restaurant. For a glasshouse ambience with view of the commanding twin towers, head to the dining area. We were here for breakfast – and what a knockout of all senses. Much of the poetry of the food, incredible food sourcing and careful curation is lost on the pedestrian crowd. So much of the poetry is lost on the unappreciative crowd.
Humble asparagus is sweet, firm and do sprinkle some sea salt for an elevated taste. Pastries and bakes are superb and few – you taste the Elle French premium butter, and the right flaky texture means their ovens are seriously good stuff. Reggiano Parmigiano wheel is another highlight here. They serve up hearty chunks of this. Turkish honey isn’t the cheap Chinese fake make. There is so much careful planning in food sourcing, and you really taste the goodness. It’s a pity we miss the ala carte dinner menu, but I imagine it is nothing less than extraordinary. Even the fresh herb plants taste heavenly – I plucked a few and felt like I was whisked back to an agri-tourismo in Umbria. If you’re into tacky eating, please steer clear. If you have refined palates (which the breakfast crowds don’t), good etiquette and moderate dress sense, please blow your senses here....

Hyatt Centric Kuala Lumpur is a brand new addition to Hyatt's portfolio in KL. I booked this hotel, the 2 Twin beds room, with points as this is a Category 1 hotel with great value, considering they brand this as a 5 star hotel. Location wise, the hotel is tepid with 10 minute walk to either KLCC or Bukit Bintang, while situated in between two monorail stations. If you happen to love walking or don't have any accessibility problem, this hotel would be great. Otherwise (like me), it might not be the best option as its surrounding areas are filled with traffic jams. It's also directly connected to Menara Hap Seng that has decent food options but beware they're mostly closed on Sunday.
Arriving at the hotel, the check-in process was pretty easy and we were assigned to these brand new rooms quickly at the 12th floor. While walking the hallway, there's a water filter station near the elevator that is very much appreciated. The room itself has its pros and cons to me: (+) Spacious, high ceiling, modern decor. (+) Good bedding and adequate lighting (it's not a strikingly "bright" room, rather a relaxing one). (+) Incredible Air Conditioning, it gets properly cold while can be adjusted accordingly. (+) Great amenities including espresso machines, spacious table & chair, universal power outlets. (+) Plenty of storage spaces and functional design (+) Immaculate soundproofing. (+) Barcode for additional amenities request. (-) Separate bathroom, toilet, and sink area making it an "open" bathroom. (-) Partition to this "bathroom" area is only a sliding wall to the bedroom while it has two "open" areas with the other one being adjacent to the room's door to the hallway. (-) Open closet, with riggings that can make you "peek" to the bathroom, I'm not a fan of it. (-) Room service is yet to be available until end of January.
During our first night the rooms had a trouble with one having a leaked bathroom that seeps to the dry area and the other one having a loud AC fan. I complained and the manager emailed me that they offer me to move to another room, with an upgrade of the Twin Towers view, along with breakfast (as we didn't pay for it). We also had a trouble of the staffs not closing the staffs door accordingly that makes the bell beeps overtime. After I complained however, I no longer faced any issue.
Regarding the breakfast, they offer a selection of buffet from the Western style and Malaysian. They all tasted great (especially the eggs) but from the two days we were there I wished that they can offer a wider range of selection/rotation especially on the Malaysian cuisine. Service was also exceptional. Additional info from what I have seen they only offer Halal selections which is more than welcomed for Muslim travelers.
Other facilities worth mentioning including the equipped gym and a rooftop swimming pool with a peek view of the Twin Towers.
Overall, staying at the hotel itself is a pleasant experience but there was still room for improvements in some aspects. From my stay however, I keen to say that they are willing to improve considering this is a brand new hotel that is yet to have its grand opening. Some mishaps can still be tolerated but with a caliber of Hyatt, I hope they can provide a flawless experience...
Read moreStayed for two nights for staycation. If you’re driving, The hotel does have a basement parking but it’s not opened yet. Therefore you have to leave your car with a valet that parks it for you.
Good points:
Now for the bad points:
Suggest to management to train the staff and workers more thoroughly. Once the hotel gets busier, it’s just gonna get more hectic. Will your service staff be able to handle it?
All in all, we did have a fairly good and enjoyable stay. 10min walk to KLCC, no spa or...
