Fong Lye Coffee & Teahouse - The Exchange TRX — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

The place offered free dessert for a 5 star review - but that was not the reason why I wrote this down.

When you visit a restaurant or cafe, you often find yourself ordering that 1 item. For example, a particular main, side, drink or dessert would be nice. If you got lucky, maybe 2 out of the 4 would be great.

Here, I got the cheesy pork set, black pepper beef rice set, and a winter melon lemon drink. The sides that came with the sets were great in their own right - cherry tomatoes were a good appetiser, the soup was nicely seasoned. Paired together with the mains, the unassuming sauces and curry were a perfect pair to lu rou fan and omurice respectively. The drink was also surprisingly great - not too sweet with a gentle aftertaste of winter melon together with lemon.

Just as we were about to finish our meal, the staff approached us with a free matcha tart. Note that we did not do any reviews yet. This was also not too sweet with several layers to it - a darker matcha top with a lighter bottom, complete with a cakey finish and tart biscuit for the perfect texture.

If you’re a huge fan of savoury foods that are not too salty, dessert and drinks that are not too sweet - do visit this place, I’m not being paid for...

Used to frequent Fong Lye at the Gardens Mall but since their price increased significantly I have stopped going. The prices for their set meals, although good taste wise was just not worth it anymore.

So when I chanced upon this at the TRX and saw that they offered value set lunches, I gave them a try again.

Their value sets were 'smaller' in portion compared to their regular sets which is fine by me cos I can't finish their regular portions anyway. For small eaters this should suffice. Taste wise, food is good. I ordered their pork chop rice and the pork chop portion was quite 'large' too. Comes with half an egg, some kimchi and sides of a bowl of soup (with one meatball and a slab of radish) and a very small dish of black fungus.

Overall a hearty meal. Still expensive no less but definitely cheaper than their...

Writing this review bcuz I really wanna appreciate the excellent service from fong lye TRX!

We ordered the Chicken with scallion sauce set. However the chicken is not well cooked at first. Their staff immediately change for us and served free dessert to the whole table.

Unfortunately, the second chicken also not well cooked so we thought maybe need to feedback to the kitchen. But the whole experience is satisfied, since we can feel that their staff apologise for our unpleasant feelings.

SURPRISINGLY, they removed the order from the bill directly before I make the payment. Which I definitely not expected after the free dessert.

Such a sincerely amd professional service behaviour and I'll recommend this store to all my friends and families!
