I went with a friend to celebrate her birthday, the entertaining part was le Petit Chef and that was it. Food was really average at best for some of the dishes.
We had the vegetarian menu
Around the world tomato dish 3/5 the smallest bruschetta (maybe smaller than le petit chef) taste alright tomato terrine , 4/5 this was one of my fav mouthful gazpacho , 3/5 it was unique and I quite like it but probably should have a remark that it's spicy
Kandinsky Inspired dish This was when it started getting problematic
We were suppose to have potato croquettes for our vegetarian course. But we had what taste very much like chicken and asked the host , the host was surprised too and went into the kitchen to check.
Then a chef came out and told us it was soy mock meat and it tasted soooo realistic because they were a 5 star hotel eventhough the menu clearly states potato croquettes, who knows how it suddenly became soy meat.
Wild mushroom Aranchini Huge rice ball that taste decent but we could only eat half because it was so big and packed with rice. Are they trying to stuff us with rice? 🤨
Musical This was the BIGGEST LETDOWN FOR ME. The cheapest looking supermarket egg tofu with the typical Chinese wedding oyster sauce. I could not believe my eyes when it was served
Interactive dessert The interactive part was is breaking a piece of chocolate on the plate and putting in the provided toppings.
The host was apparently suppose to go around melting the chocolate with a torch but it extinguished before he even reach the first guest so we were told the eat the dessert as it is. The host event around the tables to apologise and gave everyone a free piece of chocolate
FYI , our glass of water wasn't even refilled until the end of the meal where we asked for it. Basic service no?
All in all, the petit chef was really eye opening and quite fascinating but don't expect much from the food and service. For the price, think of it as paying an entrance ticket to...
Read moreBy charging Michelin star prices and by hosting it in the Hyatt you create high expectations. Those were absolutely not met. Food was mediocre, service was poor, ambience mwah and the lightshow was just a projector on your white linnen table with some shadow effects that should give a 3D feeling. I expected amazing food and hologram like animations.
Given the various reviews I had my doubts about this event. Hit or miss. We changed our vegetarian meal for le grand chef due to the negative reviews regarding the vegetarian options.
Food was, despite the regular menu, not good. The scallops and cod were ok, the curry sauce that came with it was really good actually. The chicken was not tender and the appetizer nothing special. The sate for the kids was burnt. It was category “good pub food”. I think the program is based on western food which is hard to prepare properly in an Asian country.
Service was poor. They did not notice cutlery was missing. We took the wine pairing. Time is limited so you have to down your glasses before the next one comes. We did not get all the wines and had to remind the staff we had a wine pairing. Wines were ok.
Ambience is a hotel conference room with some large tables and a sound booth. Ok for a light show if it is good, but nothing special.
Light show was just a projector above your table shining on the linnen. The show was not fully in sync with the menu (different plates than presented) and the dessert did not come with any animation. So not even all courses had a show. The animations were fun, the kids liked it, but nothing special.
It was a fun experience, but for the price you pay it was really bad. No “wow” or any surprises. The idea is great, the execution poor.
If you are the type of person that likes the hop-on hop-of bus, the city dungeon, hardrock cafe and Madame Tussaud, than this is something you will enjoy I guess. If you like fine dining with a special touch, then you should...
Read moreThe entire Le Petit Chef experience was fun, memorable and entertaining, but what impressed most was the food and wine. We opted for the Le Grande Chef menu with wine pairing, and it did not disappoint. All 5 courses were interesting and tasty, with delicious and surprising elements for each round. Wine pairings were spot on.
Was it a "perfect" experience? I can't say it was - technical audio sound at the start had us struggling to hear what the hotel chef was saying (this improved after the beginning), the wine for our first course was forgotten about until we asked (but service recovered after that first course with the subsequent wines very promptly served before each course began). Small hiccups in service timing in sync with the show. If I had one small critique on the food, it's that the fish in the 4th course could do with some (more) seasoning 😊 even though the accompanying sauce was very flavorful. However and despite these little comments, it was a very enjoyable, engaging evening and meal. The wine pairings in particular were stand out and something I would definitely recommend adding on. The experience overall was close to 5 stars. We are a couple and was initially worried that the concept is geared more for families with young children, but this was not the case - the commentary by Le Petit Chef is actually quite adult 😉 and kids will be mesmerised by the audiovisual elements even if they don't understand it all, so it's fun for every age.
As feedback, I think there is a missed opportunity for Grand Hyatt in terms of cross-selling with Thirty8 bar or an overnight hotel staycation to really turn this dinner activity into a fully...
