Nestled in the middle of a residential neighbourhood in Bangsar, N97 is the perfect date night/family dinner spot. It is located in a quieter area, away from the hustle bustle and crazy traffic of Telawi Bangsar.

Parking is rather limited but we were lucky to have found one right in front of the restaurant (we were also 15 mins early). The service was good - staff were friendly and efficient and, we didn’t wait long for our food and drinks. The restaurant was small and cozy, fitting only 5-6 parties that night.

The star of the night was the wagyu ribeye. Although it was cooked medium on the side, it was medium rare in the middle. Weighing at 280g, we had a juicy, flavourful, buttery cut with some beautiful marbling. Their homemade black pepper sauce and the 2 other jams/sauces (I forgot what they are) complement the steak well.

For the wagyu sirloin, it was cooked to perfection; medium rare and seasoned well. Also weighed around 280g. We had an excellent cut with a good amount of fats. It also came with their homemade black pepper sauce. If you like a more leaner, chewy meat, we would definitely recommend getting this.

There isn’t much to say about the sides except that they are excellent! We demolished the sides clean.

The only thing that disappointed us was the dessert. As a tiramisu lover, I would rate their biscoff tiramisu a 1/10. For a RM42 biscoff tiramisu, we could not taste the biscoff nor the tiramisu. Texture was pudding-like and taste was rather bland; no touch of bitterness from espresso at all.

All in all, I would definitely recommend N97 if you’re looking for a well-priced wagyu steak in a cozy environment. Just go elsewhere...

Extremely overrated and dishonest practice, three reasons:

  1. We selected a 2.4kg rm1300 tomahawk. When the tomahawk came, we saw the size (which look nothing more than our neighbour’s 1.3kg) and questioned them. The staff mentioned that he double checked with the kitchen and he said that it was right.. we couldn’t argue much. But 3 of us ate the tomahawk and still felt hungry after it really made us question the value we are getting.

  2. When the bill came.. we were charged rm1600 for 2.6kg instead of the rm1300 communicated. We tried to reason with the staffs that we were not informed of the switch but he mentioned he couldn’t do anything because we had finished our meal. I find this incredibly unreasonable and any change should have been pre-communicated.

  3. Meat wasn't as great as some of the other outlet - was disappointed with such positive comments we saw online. For the price - I would gladly spend them elsewhere.

Two weeks later.. we went to Lucky Bo for a 2.0kg tomahawk and the size we were getting was definitely at least twice of what we had at N97. 4 of us couldn't even finish the tomahawk itself! This further confirmed that we were cheated at N97.

It was the only time and the only time we will ever visit. Please double check the order you are getting to make sure you don’t get cheated. You can refer to the size of tomahawk we are getting at the...

I do eat steaks frequently at quite a number of places, but I won't consider myself a steak connoisseur at the expense of sounding snobbish. But, I'm disappointed with the steak here.

Severely Overpriced. Ordered 2+kg tomahawk. I don't think it really is. Because if it was, I doubt we would be able to finish and feel hungry. I'm not sure if they weigh carefully or not. The price range here is trying to compete with premium steak houses. So it's a $$$.

Better options for steak lovers:- Value : may not meet expectations and lacking in atmosphere. : Grub's, Jake's Slightly more expensive: Maria's, vantador, beato, lucko bo(hands down better flavour (charcoal grill) and bigger volume for the tomahawk than here more value for money, and I'm sure they weigh properly too), and cheaper than n97.

To each their own. As I said I'm NOT a steak connoisseur but I love steaks and eat lot and even experimented for hobby with varying cooking styles (sear, reverse sear, sous vide , pan sear, BBQ charcoal grill, searzall, etc). Saving grace is they captured medium rare just as we ordered. But I'm 100% certain the steak is NOT 2.4 kg. Seriously.

Thus, I would not recommend this place if you are absolutely a steak lover lest u be disappointed. Or don't order their tomahawk or you'll get cheated. I certainly...

Do not intimidated by the price. What you get in return is a carefully designed ambient environment designed to focus your senses on food and conversation, wait staff who are well-versed with the menu and kitchen team who clearly understood and respected the ingredients. I had the wagyu striploin steak, medium-well. It was my first experience with wagyu beef and I'm glad I chose N97. The steak was justice done, served with a dash of truffle oil, chimichurri glazing, rocket salad and grilled cherry tomato and double-fried, crispy french fries that was served separately. It resulted in a dance in the mouth but not overwhelmingly so. The chef was careful not to overkill thus I had none of those after-queasiness that I would usually expect with beef. Washed down with iced lime water, I was ready for dessert. Dessert was apple crumble with a side of vanilla ice cream and fresh blue berries & raspberries and enough for 2 pax. The crumble had buttery tinge to it and you get the sweetness from the ice cream and tanginess from the berries. A well-balanced modicum of flavours. To future patrons, do dress-up. No slippers and shorts. Price-wise, well that depends on the menu but the wagyu striploin is RM200.
