Taste of old school food in spanking new restaurant
Honestly, I am not sure if this New Sek Yuen is owned by the same people being the "OLD" (original) Sek Yuen but the dishes were awfully similar so I guess either they are the same people, or opened by their former chef or something - someone please enlighten me 🙏🏻
The dinner was arranged by member of the extended family, as we were in a big group and needed a spacious place to dine. Upon reaching the restaurant, I was actually impressed by the modern double-storey building lit by the bright yellow sign of the restaurant. We were ushered to the second floor of the restaurant - the tables were spaced out nicely.
◾Roast duck - plain without any sauce but still packed with the all the flavours that a roast duck should have, complete with the crispy skin and juicy meat that I always look for in my duck. One of the most ordered dish in Sek Yuen. ◾steamed "wan yue" belly with ginger - this marked my first time having wan yue belly as opposed to the usual tail or head in most restaurants. Gotta love the strong flavour from the ginger. ◾Chicken skin with fish paste stuffing - a dish I love that needs time to create and quite tedious as well. ◾Shark fins and crab meat omelette - classic Chinese dish during wedding banquet of the past which Sek Yuen has done this dish justice. Grabbed a spoonful and wrapped with the accompanying lettuce before eating away! ◾sweet & sour pork - good enough for the kids ◾beancurd with minced meat & pumpkin sauce - in this dish the pumpkin sauce made the difference.. a good one! ◾fried rice & braised noodle with seafood - for the young ones so they wouldn't fight with us for the other dishes ◾vegetables
Brought along a magnum and everyone was delighted... Of course, the foods were...
Read moreThis is 1 of the old KL restaurants that is well known to most local KL folks. Not a fancy restaurant with luxury interior set up but comfortable dinning space. I was here once b4 MCO and couple of times last 2 years and here we are again. I told myself this time I should not 4get to take photos of the food serving and write a review. I didn’t do that last few times because I was busy focusing on the food🤭. Advise to leave your car with valet parking RM8 only because parking lots are hard to get here unless you come much earlier b4 restaurant starts their operation. We ordered special shark fin soup, crab ball, Pei Pa Duck, Tokyo Rib, Kai Lan with Roast Pork & Tofu with Pumpkin Source. ALL SUPERD!!! Their crab balls are home made. Duck was crispy & delicious. Not to mention the shark fin soup, excellent! The lady owner Emily is a very friendly lady who will go around the tables to check with the customers on the food quality & status of food serving. Oh ya she can drink well also. You can bring your own bottle and keep there if you can finish. We were lucky enough or in a same frequency with the lady owner and was served with free desert. Everyone of us enjoyed the meal & was planning to have my MIL birthday dinner here. There are a few special dishes that you should order in advance: chicken skin with fish paste, pork tendons just to mention a few. Can always call & check with them. Almost 4got, their Hokkien Mee is...
Read moreWent to this restaurant last month, for dinner. It was truly a nightmare. I would suggest to anyone to save your money instead to give this restaurant a try.
I called up in advance for a table of 12 person. The operator confirmed my reservation. When me and my family arrived the restaurant, table was not prepared and we ended dinning at a rather awful and awkward, people walking up and down disturbing, noisy, and rather dusty corner upstairs. The service of the restaurant also really bad and unacceptable. They will pretend not notice or see you when you wave at them or when you call them, only if you shout. Air con is terribly weak and hot in the restaurant. Despite all these shortcomings, if the food are good and taste, i think should be able to cover it all but unfortunately, food are terrible, taste weird and presentation is rather unattractive. Price is general, we ordered 7 dishes, no fish or seafood, final bill is around 400 including taxes.
Compared to initial Sek Yuen in Jalan Pudu, at least the food are good and taste like old time. The rating is 1 star lower, i will give zero or negative if available. New Sek Yuen doesn't deserve any star. BTW, parking is RM7, collected by an gangster like Indian.
Again, my advise is, keep this restaurant in your...
