Possibly the only restaurant in KL serving Iraqi cuisine. Is an upmarket place with excellent ambience and service (albeit some language problem sometimes).
Free soup and pickled vegetables are served as starters. The soup was quite tasty - some sort or lentil soup in a flavourful broth. The pickled vegetables were quite piquant and opens up the appetite.
Plain Hummus came with some types of sunflower seed/ kuaci. The texture of the hummus was soft and creamy. Served with a crispy and warm bread to scoop up the hommus. The Special Samad Hummus had added tomato, pomegranate seeds, chopped olives and nuts among others. Both are top notch and Highly Recommended.
Chicken Biryani was excellent. The rice was flavourful enough to eat on its own. It was topped with cashew nut and green peas and served with baked beans on the side (which you can ignore). The star was the fall-off-the-bone chicken which was also crispy on the outside. It had an amazing aroma and taste. Definitely dish I’d return to have again and Highly Recommended. Also Highly Recommended is the Damascus Chicken Quzi. Served in a warm pastry dough, the serving is enough for 2 persons to share - flavourful rice with lots of shredded chicken inside. Add the yoghurt served on the side for some sourness to help you finish this large serving.
Hamees Lamb in Pot is a good option if you don’t fancy rice. Chunks of tender lamb with a tomato gravy is great to be moped up with the bread covering the pot. Extra bread is available on request too.
Their kebabs and grills are good but I’d rather have the other unique Iraqi dishes not found elsewhere.
The Turkish coffee is strong and grainy. It’s authentic but it’s an acquired taste unless you’re familiar with this type of coffee.
Don’t miss the desserts. Kunafa Cheese is served warm and crispy and drizzled with a rose scented syrup. This version will beat any of the so called “viral” ones sold on the streets. Znoud El Sit it the Iraqi version of a cream filled popiah - not overly sweet and the 4 pieces are just nice to share.
Overall the food prices are a little on the high side but you get good quality and tasty food with attentive service in a nice atmosphere. Definitely worth a try if you’re...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at an Iraqi restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, and it was a culinary experience to remember. From the moment I stepped inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the stage for an unforgettable meal. The décor reflected the rich cultural heritage of Iraq, with intricate patterns, beautiful lanterns, and a soothing ambiance that made me feel transported to the Middle East.
The menu offered an impressive selection of traditional Iraqi dishes, each crafted with care and authenticity. I started with the kubba, perfectly crispy on the outside and filled with a flavorful spiced meat mixture. The hummus was creamy and paired beautifully with freshly baked samoon bread. For the main course, I tried the masgouf, a slow-grilled fish delicacy, and the tender lamb kebabs, both seasoned to perfection.
What truly stood out was the attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients. Every bite was a symphony of flavors, from the aromatic spices to the perfectly cooked meats. The portions were generous, and the staff was attentive and friendly, happy to explain the dishes and recommend favorites.
To end the meal, I enjoyed a cup of traditional Iraqi tea, served with a hint of cardamom, alongside a plate of sweet baklava. It was the perfect conclusion to an exceptional dining experience.
For anyone in Kuala Lumpur seeking a taste of authentic Iraqi cuisine, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit. It’s a rare gem that combines delicious food, a warm atmosphere, and a genuine passion for sharing the rich culinary traditions of Iraq. Highly...
Read moreWe’ve been traveling for about 3 weeks now and this was one of the best meals we’ve had on our trip so far! Even though we are vegetarian and at first thought there wouldn’t be a lot to order, we were completely blown away by everything we tasted. Every single bite was amazing.
We ordered the Selection of Dips shared appetiser, which came with hot Iraqi bread. They brought us complimentary lentil soup which was something we were planning to order as well, anyway, so that was a lovely surprise! It tasted devine.
The dips were incredible, each one as unique as it was delicious. They refilled our bread basket twice, bringing us two more huge pieces of hot Iraqi bread—more than we could finish—completely free.
To drink, I had a Caesar Cocktail, which was a banana date milkshake topped with whipped cream and candied pistachio pieces—exquisite! One of the best shakes I’ve had in my life, anywhere in the world! My partner had the ginger honey tea, with slices of lemon on the side to add in. It was the perfect combination of strong spicy ginger, sweet honey, and lemon flavour. Warm and rejuvenating!
We were tempted to order a salad as well, as they all looked super good, but between the complimentary soup, the dips with the extra bread, and the drinks, we were already so full.
Then, to top it off, they brought us complimentary Iraqi tea after our meal, which was also delicious.
All the servers were very friendly and attentive. And the artwork and ambience inside was lovely. Could not have possibly been a better experience! Thank you so much Samad Al Iraqi Restaurant!! I would give 11...
