If you’re a scotch enthusiast visiting central Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, you’ve got to swing by The Whisky Bar. This was my best scotch experience so far (I’ve not yet been to Scotland). Their collection has more than 700 different labels and is a bit larger than mine (#sarcasm). The manager, Andy, posts outstanding reviews on Instagram of his latest tastings (@pot_or_column) and I had been following him from afar. It was a pleasure meeting him and sommelier Marcus and talking scotch shop with folks so knowledgeable, yet so down-to-earth. I devised my tasting lineup through Andy’s Instagram reviews and then his and Marcus’ personal advice, which all catered to my palate. The experience was so special I returned two days later for a second round of tastings. If you are a serious (or borderline serious) scotch enthusiast, you’ll want to visit during the weekday, when it’s less crowded, so you can take time to sit at the bar, relax and enjoy the camaraderie. But make sure it’s a day Andy and/or Marcus are there (I went on a Thursday and Saturday). For the scotch nerds out there, among my tastings were: Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s Linkwood 9 (A tropical breakfast), Linkwood 19 (A Blue Lady and a Seraph’s smile), Springbank 22 (A coal bucket of marshmallows), a Single Cask Macduff 19, a Single Cask The English Whisky Co. 8, and a Bowmore 29 (1982 vintage). Overall, a wonderfully...

Stood at the front of the entrance and waited to be seated but guessed the staff were either very very busy entertaining their regular clientele or didn't think we could afford a tipple there from our appearance. Finally managed to get the attention of the male manager who on all accounts was cheerful and smiley enough. Sat outside and was served by a young local chap who didnt seem at all pleased by our presence as our questions were answered rather curtly by him. However, his mood seemed to change immediately as he perked up and quickly walked away to serve another well-dressed caucasian lady, greeting her with a rather-robust enthusiasm that was glaringly missing a few moments ago while engaging with us. Oh well, what to do,these things do happen.. Ways,to cut the whole story short,we ordered 1 dram of Balvenie 12 yrs doublewood each. Superb presentation which contributed to 1 star, the other star being a very nice ambience for enjoying your whisky. Price of the 2 drinks? $109/- after taxes..Definitely not worth getting the price of getting my mouth moist. Waaaay too atas for my...
