It's a very quiet and secluded neighborhood, Waze showed me the back road where parking is definitely a challenge - I ended up parked in an open carpark at RM5 for the first 2hrs. Not expensive, but there is an option to drive in thru Sam Mansion's main gate and park in front of the café. So be careful when waze in to the café. I walked in thru the back door - it's opened and there's a little sign board indicating Transparent café.
Brightly lit with big transparent window pane, the interior of the café is minimalistic with crafted wooden log as table and wooden chair. There is a little metal plate as drink placeholder or arm rest.
The ordering counter and the "action stall" looks like a lab setup, creative and interesting. Their menu has wondering names, all sounds like product specimens Lol! 3 of us ended up ordering 4 drinks and a dessert.
First up, the custard brulee topped with seasonal fruits and in our case it's passion fruits. If you're lucky, u may get grapefruits (depending on the season) and recommended by the barrista as better ;) We love this custard brulee, the silkiness of the steam custard, sweetness the caramel and top with sourish passion fruits, the whole taste bud was brought up to a notch.
The 4 drinks were flat white, microlot villa sachi, sunset nova and coffee blossom ale. Flat white started off sour and personally I don't really fancy it. I swapped with a friend over to villa sachi, which is a drip coffee and I love it! The fragrance of the coffee, for the nose and taste buds too! However not thick enough I feel. Sunset nova was interesting, the bottom layer is passion fruits, topped with coffee. Mixing them both doesn't feel strange at all, quite lovely I feel. Coffee blossom ale was the least favourite as we tasted more frizzy ale than any coffee (we were informed there isn't coffee init but coffee...
Read moreUpon entering, I immediately sensed an unwelcoming atmosphere, especially when one of the male staff members assisted me with my order. Observing their interactions with other customers, I detected a lack of genuine hospitality.
I opted for a coffee from Honduras with Tim Washed. While watching the barista prepare my drink, it was evident that they were inexperienced, as they referred to handwritten notes for guidance and guided by a peer. Fortunately, the coffee had a clean taste profile, with a well-balanced sweetness that made it enjoyable to drink.
Its always a good practice to use utensils or tools to handle coffee beans to maintain coffee quality, as direct contact between hands and coffee beans can affect the flavor. Witnessied baristas here using their hands to measure beans for pour-over, and their fingers instead of a coffee powder presser, can be somewhat unsettling. Hopefully, they prioritize hygiene and handle the beans with care and cleanliness, ensuring minimal impact on flavor.
I also ordered the Triple Mushroom Brioche, which came with a side of cheddar cheese and cheese crackers. The brioche was flavorful and fluffy, a delightful choice. Learnt that the pastries and breads are from doudoubake, under the same owner.
The café's location is quite secretive and hidden. If you search for their café name on Waze, you'll be directed to a street at the back. However, if you enjoy a short walk of 1-2 minutes with free parking lot, you'll stumble upon other hidden gem cafes surrounding. Alternatively, searching for this place at Mentahmatter Design will lead you directly to its...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Transparent coffee, a truly unique café, where the coffee experience is taken to an entirely new level. This one-of-a-kind establishment stands out for its excellent coffee and innovative concoctions.
The drink menu was an adventure in itself. I tried the Batch Coffee, Coffee Lemonade, and Coffee Blossom Fizz. Each beverage was distinct and memorable, but the Coffee Lemonade was the standout for me. It was an invigorating blend that reminded me of iced lemon tea, but with a delightful coffee twist – so good that I couldn't resist ordering a second cup.
The Almond Croissant also deserves a mention. It was the perfect companion to the coffee, with its nice, fragrant aroma and flaky texture.
However, there's a caveat to this delightful café: the seating arrangement. The place lacks sufficient seating, which might require sharing or even standing. This aspect could detract from the overall enjoyment, especially for those looking to savor their drinks and food comfortably. A suggestion for improvement would be to rethink the interior design, possibly replacing the current benches with more conventional tables and chairs, to enhance the dining experience.
Despite the seating challenge, this café is a must-visit for anyone looking for a unique coffee experience. The combination of creatively curated beverages and the cozy, quirky ambiance makes it a memorable spot for coffee...
