Where do I even begin, what a disaster. (1) To be frank we should've read the warning signs all over before ordering, we seated and waited for an extended period before the menus are even provided. Half way through deciding, staff comes and tell us many items that are in the menu which were not specifically crossed out are unavailable, the staff comes and go and keeps needing us to repeat our order, clearly not paying attention. Forgot to take orders for drinks until we reminded them to take the order. (2) Then the waiting time for the food to arrive was simply inexcusable, the food was not served together, the kai-lan we ordered took the longest time to arrive, around 15 minutes after we finished the other dishes. (3) The staff doesn't take much note or attention even after we alerted the staff about the kai-lan not arriving, and just reassuring us that's it is on the way when we still have a long wait ahead, all the other seats are getting their Vege and is just us, really unacceptable, the staff also don't even feel at all apologetic, didn't provide refund is fine, not even an apology? Where's manners? (4) With the long wait, you'll expect the food to be at least quite nice, while its quite the contrary unfortunately, it was decent at best and just down right bad if I'm being honest. It's not something I'd expect from a price tag of RM20+ per dish: A) The lemon fried chicken we ordered was under seasoned and the chicken lacked much taste at all, overpowered by the lemon, B) The kai-lan was just salty, too much msg. C) The others didn't stand out as particularly bad worth noting, but it's just normal.

(5) The price was too expensive for the quality we get, the portion size was extremely small as well.

3/10 wouldn't recommend if there was an alternative, but definitely still doable if it's your last resort and it's not poisonous or dirty that'll actively do harm to...

Dec 2024 Unplanned venue for this evening dinner after searching through Google reviews. Overall food was food. Taste and flavor were slightly above average although not excellent. Service was good. The boss lady was friendly and very patience with our orders. Total we ordered 8 dishes for 10 paxs.

Song fish head claypot (mud fish). Flavour was good, Lots of ingredients like roasted pork, broccoli, white lettuce, fried tofu, straw Mushroom, etc. (4/5)

Squid cooked in lemongrass and ginger soup. Squid abit too small and too thin. Flavor was good. (4/5)

Clams (lala) cooked in wine. Flesh was sweet. (4/5)

Hokkien noodle cooked in dark sauce. Good flavour but not much ingredients. (4/5)

Mee Tai Mak cooked in mince pork meat with half boiled egg. Very delicious and flavourful. (4.5/5)

Yam ring. Good amount of ingredients and yam was good that had balanced taste. (4.5/5)

A plate of vegetable with mixed chin long chye and bean sprouts. Probably the best dish. (5/5)

Tomatoes fried with eggs. Tomatoes cut too big slice. Tasteless probably worst dish among all. (1/5)

We had some Tang Yang (rice ball). Surprisingly was very good.

Bill came...

Westlake Restaurant at 40, Jalan Sultan in Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown is a fantastic spot for authentic Chinese cuisine. The restaurant offers a nostalgic dining experience with its traditional decor and warm, welcoming atmosphere.

The menu features a wide range of Chinese dishes, from classic dim sum to hearty stir-fries and soups. The braised duck and sweet and sour pork are standout dishes—flavorful, well-cooked, and generously portioned. The food tastes fresh and is prepared with high-quality ingredients, ensuring a satisfying meal.

The restaurant is conveniently located, making it a great stop after exploring the bustling streets of Chinatown. While the decor is slightly old-school, it adds to the charm and authenticity of the place. The staff is friendly and efficient, ensuring quick service even during busy hours.

Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, making Westlake Restaurant a great value for money. Whether you're looking for a family dinner or a casual meal with friends, this restaurant is a must-visit for Chinese food lovers in Kuala Lumpur.

Highly recommended for its delicious food, nostalgic vibe, and convenient...
