I was in the area and craving for Japanese when this place popped up as a recommendation on Google Maps.
Upon entering I was initially apprehensive as the decor and menu seemed too superlative for my liking. Also I have something against putting gold on my sushi...
I'm pleased to inform that everything I ordered didn't disappoint, except that things came out in the wrong order.
The engawa nori taco was supposed to be a starter but it came out last. It was good but hardly worth waiting for. Portion was standard.
The six sushi platter was a delight. Everything was fresh, and the sushi itself was assembled with care and thought, with just the right amount of seasoning and wasabi without needing to add anymore. This implies that the sushi chef had been well-trained. My only gripe is that there's a bit too much toppings on some of the sushi, which tend to fall off if you don't eat it upright, which is not my preferred way of eating sushi.
The real star was the aburi prawn mentaiko pasta. Lightly grilled sweet prawn brought out it's flavor without compromising freshness. It's a real skill to grill something so small and light without overcooking it, I'm really impressed. The pasta itself was a delightful compliment, with just the right amount of mentaiko and al dente to boot.
Service was exceptional as well, as my tea was constantly refilled without me ever touching it.
I would say the prices are slightly high but the chef's skills are definitely worth it. It's definitely not fine dining, more of a restobar concept, although the china is of fine quality the paper...
Read moreNi Kizoku is a hidden gem for Japanese fine dining, and my recent dinner experience here was nothing short of amazing! From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the elegant blend of Japanese and European classic decor. The warm, dim lighting created a cozy and romantic atmosphere, making it feel like a scene straight out of a movie.
The food was absolutely delightful! I tried the Ikura Salmon Mentai Chazuke, and the combination of the rich salmon roe and umami-packed broth was a comforting hug for my soul. The Foie Gras Unagi Croissant was a game-changer — the crispy layers of the pastry paired with the sweet and savory mix of unagi and foie gras was indulgence at its best. For a vegetarian option, the Natto Olive Spaghetti was surprisingly refreshing, with the natto's unique aroma balancing perfectly with the slight tanginess of the olives.
To top it off, the Knock Knock Dessert was a playful and delicious surprise. Cracking open the crispy shell to find soft red bean mochi, with a base of coconut milk and tropical fruits, felt like a sweet vacation on a plate.
The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who made sure every dish was served at the right pace, allowing us to savor the experience without...
Read moreI brought my 11 and 13 year old and both really liked their set menus. The food is served in a dramatic fashion with the smoked salad smoked in front of you, the grilled chicken coming out in a massive tower of aluminium with the sizzling food inside and mint sprinkled with a flurry in front of the audience.
Some dished were on the dot whilst others were all nicely dressed but under whelming.
The good: stand outs are the Angus steak and the ebi starter. Grilled Brinjal with cavier. The desserts are really good! The drinks are good.
The average: the smoked salad didn't end up being smokey. Perhaps it's because iceberg lettuce and not picking up the 10 sec smoke drama. The soft shell crab pasta rather too rich and could not be finished.
Needs a re-think: the yuzu grilled chicken which was MYR 39 for 5 or 6 pieces. Not worth the price in either portion or taste. Lots of smoke and no fire 😂
Having said that we enjoyed the meal overall and my kids would...
