Another restaurant checked off from our MCO bucket list, been living so many years in Melaka but never visit this shop before.

We ordered the highly rated mutton soup, the hainanese mee and a sweet sour pork. Service was quite fast with 2 chefs, and the workers are charming.

The smallest pot of mutton soup was just nice amount for 2 of us, as there are other dishes we want to try. Soup tasted just right, not too heavy, mutton was soft and chewy, and there were herbs and tau poks to help drench your bite.

Hainanese mee is something unique, never seen before elsewhere. Thick noodle like those used in hokkien mee was stir fried and left to be off white with no soy sauce. This dish used a lot of onions and thinly pickled veggies, if you like tangy and sweet this is probably for you.

Lastly the sweet sour pork bits were done right with each meat fit in one bite. Outer layer is not that crunchy but has texture, the sauce seeped in the right amount into the pork, but there was too much oil (visible thickness) left on the plate to my liking.

All in all, good first impression, will come back to try other traditional hainanese dishes in the future.

All the above is just my personal opinion, "to know what honey tastes like, you have to try...

We visited for their signature lamb soup. The food was decent—taste was average, vegetables came in small portions, and the price was slightly on the higher side.

However, the service experience was disappointing. We asked the aunty who took our order whether the pineapple juice was freshly pressed or canned, but she didn’t respond even after we repeated the question. Later, two pineapple juices were brought to our table (already unsealed), even though we never ordered them. We clarified that we were just asking about the juice, not ordering it, but she ignored us and walked away.

What’s more frustrating is that one of our friends ordered lemongrass drink, but it was replaced with dried tangerine peel drink without informing us. We told the aunty it was a mistake on her side, but she didn't acknowledge it and just left.

We then tried explaining the situation to another aunty, thinking she might help. At first, she acted confused, so we switched to English, but she just replied, “I don’t know English,” and walked off.

In summary: food is okay, but service definitely needs improvement—especially in communication, attitude, and basic...

This is a Hainanese food cuisine in a quiet traditional style of restaurant, 🤔🤔 is very narrow but long till end of the shop end.

Location consider still at city centre 🙂 so it may also feel like traffic jam consider passing those high density area. Anyway do a proper planning.

Parking, 😲 totally no road side to park any even micro small car, 🤔🤔 the front after passing the restaurant have quick big parking space cater for the hotel guest but you try the luck...

Food, 🤔🤔🤔 the mutton soup is quite good in the taste and the hainanese noodle also not bad but nothing to wow...one thing to highlight here

🤔🤔🤔 The menu didn't have any price 😲😲 find out after asking the person who taking the order, mutton soup is for 4person is RM45 and the noodle is RM 26 for 2 person 🤔🤔 feel a bit expensive...is it because is outsider not local..please each cuisine you order for the price for you to know any over priced dish...beware 🙄😲 the restaurant owner should aware putting price for the honest policy...is a minus one star because of...

So so glad we made it to this OG Hainanese Tzi Char Restaurant that’s been running since the 50s. The uncle and aunties running the show are so kind, grateful and nice. I am deeply humbled by their kindness and openness. I’ve never enjoyed mutton soup before but the one here is simply ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️! There’s no strong phytol smell that usually is present in a lot of mutton soup. Theirs are delicious, so pleasant to consume that I have to stop myself from ordering more. The vinegar pork ribs is well-done, well coated and not overwhelming. I feel that all the food are cooked so understatedly delicious that it doesn’t confuse your tastebuds. Everything is as it’s supposed to be without being too cloying. Their classic hainanese chicken is only served on the weekend and almost all the patrons that came seem to order them. Even if you’re not a fan of traditional hainanese chicken, you might want to try it. Not sure if there’s other establishment that will make it the way they do. Can’t wait to be back to try all their other dishes!

My family have been quite regular patrons here since my dad younger days, we stopped coming due to busy hectic schedule and all, revisited this place again after 4-5 years of absence 😂 I'd say the food still maintained its standard, still as good as I remember. Mutton soup is Hainanese style, very flavorful with all the herbs and spices, very appetising, and it doesn't really reek of that pungent mutton smell. Mutton meat goes so well with their homemade chili sauce. Another must order is the Hainanese Pork chop, my brother and mom's favorite, tender pork chop coated with egg batter, it's those soft crisp batter kind. Drenched with sweet sour tomato sauce, yummy! Another dish we'd always order is the sizzling plate tofu, omelette that's not too dry, abit of scrambled consistency with soft Japanese tofu and veg. Price wise, it definitely increased throughout the years given the fame among Chinese tourist, but good to satisfy mutton soup cravings once in a while.
