Another restaurant checked off from our MCO bucket list, been living so many years in Melaka but never visit this shop before.
We ordered the highly rated mutton soup, the hainanese mee and a sweet sour pork. Service was quite fast with 2 chefs, and the workers are charming.
The smallest pot of mutton soup was just nice amount for 2 of us, as there are other dishes we want to try. Soup tasted just right, not too heavy, mutton was soft and chewy, and there were herbs and tau poks to help drench your bite.
Hainanese mee is something unique, never seen before elsewhere. Thick noodle like those used in hokkien mee was stir fried and left to be off white with no soy sauce. This dish used a lot of onions and thinly pickled veggies, if you like tangy and sweet this is probably for you.
Lastly the sweet sour pork bits were done right with each meat fit in one bite. Outer layer is not that crunchy but has texture, the sauce seeped in the right amount into the pork, but there was too much oil (visible thickness) left on the plate to my liking.
All in all, good first impression, will come back to try other traditional hainanese dishes in the future.
All the above is just my personal opinion, "to know what honey tastes like, you have to try...
Read moreWe visited for their signature lamb soup. The food was decent—taste was average, vegetables came in small portions, and the price was slightly on the higher side.
However, the service experience was disappointing. We asked the aunty who took our order whether the pineapple juice was freshly pressed or canned, but she didn’t respond even after we repeated the question. Later, two pineapple juices were brought to our table (already unsealed), even though we never ordered them. We clarified that we were just asking about the juice, not ordering it, but she ignored us and walked away.
What’s more frustrating is that one of our friends ordered lemongrass drink, but it was replaced with dried tangerine peel drink without informing us. We told the aunty it was a mistake on her side, but she didn't acknowledge it and just left.
We then tried explaining the situation to another aunty, thinking she might help. At first, she acted confused, so we switched to English, but she just replied, “I don’t know English,” and walked off.
In summary: food is okay, but service definitely needs improvement—especially in communication, attitude, and basic...
