Serving their delicious Szechuan dishes in 7 countries, says a lot about how good their food is.
We arrived with about 10 people in front of us on a Saturday night but the queue moved fast. First thing to do, get a queue card number. When it was our turn, our usher led us to our table while holding up his hand with a peace sign✌🏻. Need help? Show the✌🏻sign, he said.
Our waiter spoke really fast in Mandarin. So when he asked if any of us were allergic, we were dumbstruck as we didn't know what's allergy in Mandarin. Anyway, if you are, tell him.
Drinks are free and self service. They have tissues, dental floss picks (yes, you didn't read it wrong) and usb cables to charge your tired phone after rapid-fire selfies, foodie shots and uploading. They even provide a fun 'kau chim' game (fortune sticks in cylindrical container) while waiting for your food which wasn't long cause soon after we ordered, our waiter brought the Suan Cai Fish enthusiastically to our table.
The star dish looks inviting. Delicate and fresh filleted fish swimming in a sour but flavoursome rich broth. The suan cai (pickled mustard greens) provides the tanginess flavour and balances out the oilyness of the broth. The best way to eat it is to take a spoon of rice and place the fish and greens on it and ummm... Your eyes light up as your brain tries to fathom what heavenly food you're eating.
The sidekick dishes are no less delicious. We had their sauteed cabbage that is cooked with dried chillies and thin slices of savoury meat, crispy, well-seasoned pork with sweet chilli sauce dip, spicy mapo tofu and dan dan noodles with ground pork and peppercorns.
We certainly love the food especially the Suan Cai that had us scratching the bottom...
Read moreI’ve been an avid supporter of Tai Er since they first came to Malaysia. Been recommending friends and family to dine there and I go at least twice a month.
Today I’ve had an extremely bad experience, and sorry to say I have to leave a review hoping you guys can improve.
We came all the way just to dine in at 9pm, well aware about their last call. When we place our order at 9:05pm, I ordered a fish for 2pax and a side dish. I noticed the ordering system required me to submit order twice and I did.
After 5 to 10 minutes, the side dish came. And after waiting for 30 minutes, we were curious why the fish (the main dish) did not come. So we asked one of the service crew about our fish. And she said we didn’t key in the system, when we obviously did.
The worst part is, they said they ran out of fish and can’t fulfill the order. And so we literally have nothing to eat. No alternative or solution given, clearly the staff thinks we didn’t order and take no accountability. All we could do was to pay for the starter and leave to find other place to eat.
Mind you, at this time all other restaurants are already closed and we’re left at a mall with no place to eat our dinner. Is this how hospitality is like? 😅
Please check your system for bugs. And to be sure, please double check your customers order.
Note that nobody checked or confirmed our order with us AT ALL.
I don’t usually write bad reviews for any establishment. But this experience had really put me...
Read moreOverall, the experience here is pleasant. The food tastes good but leans towards a heavier and oilier base. If you can't handle spicy food, I’d recommend avoiding the dishes I ordered.
Portion-wise, the servings are generous, but the pricing is on the higher side. For example, the medium-sized Spicy Sour Soup Dory Fish costs RM108, but it's enough to be shared among four ladies. The 双椒辣子鸡 costs RM49, which I find a bit overpriced because the chicken cubes are really small and mixed with other ingredients. Based on the taste, I believe they’ve added fried potato cubes, so most of the dish consists of vegetables—mainly two types of chili and potato cubes. The potato is fine to eat, but the chili depends on your spice tolerance.
Service-wise, I was impressed. They have a unique way of calling for staff using a peace ✌🏻 hand sign, which I found interesting (but personally for me as an introverted person, I was really shy to do it). The service team was attentive and had a good attitude.
I might return, but I’d definitely bring at least two more friends to share the portions—if you're a small eater, you won’t be able to finish everything...
