Haywharf Restaurant & Clubhouse — Restaurant in Floriana

We went to the restaurant after reading many good reviews, and seeing the enchanting photos. Unfortunately, the reality disappoints. The evening started peacefully, with a very nice waitress welcoming us and helping with some reservation issues. We decided to go upstairs for a better view, and ordered soft drinks, and satay chicken skewers to get an initial impression of the menu. The view was nice as expected, but as soon as we tasted the food, its power faded. Everything we got was a disaster; the skewers were covered in flour and gave a weird, stale impression, and the peanut sauce was overly dense, greasy and tasted like a curry after one too many days in the fridge. The rice under the skewers was greasy as well, and didn't have any spices, and was mixed with pieces of fresh and grilled onions. The soft drink we ordered was extremely sweet and tasted synthetic. We left after 30 minutes, leaving the bigger part of the food untouched. To summarize, we counted for a fantastic dinner, and ended up drinking herbal tea at our apartment to soothe our stomachs. However, we are hoping to be open and brave enough to give it another chance when we visit Malta...

Went there together with a friend in early march 2014. There was a party at the roof garden and some other guests in the restaurant. The restaurant is located directly on the waterfront. If you can catch a table on the window - the view into the water is pretty nice. Svetlana managed on this evening the service. She was very friendly and unbelivable quick. We followed her recommondation regarding the fish and ordered some Meager. It was well prepared and tasted delicious. Svetlana told us, that we´ve to order the fish "made into a foil into the oven".... and she was right: Great fish. As well we had some starters and a bottle of local wine. Chef Anthony Smith did a great job - he worked before he started a Haywharf at some huge hotels. Now he has his chance to develop his onw "signature". This was, without a doubt, one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. The service was abysmal from start to finish. We were left waiting over 20 minutes just to get menus, and it only went downhill from there. The staff was rude, inattentive, and clearly had no interest in providing even the bare minimum level of hospitality.

Our server barely spoke to us, got our order wrong, and then disappeared for the rest of the meal. Water glasses stayed empty, no one checked in, and it took another 30 minutes just to get the bill — which was also incorrect. The food was mediocre at best, but frankly, by the time it arrived, we had lost any appetite.

This place clearly has no concept of customer service. Save yourself the money, the time, and the frustration — go literally anywhere else. Management...
