This place is pretty fancy for TJ ~
On a recent trip to San Diego & La Jolla I convinced my mom to cross the border with me just for lunch :) She thought I was nuts!
Crossing over just for lunch is probably not worth it but that'll be a separate review. This restaurant is really nice and about a 5 min ride from the border. It's clean and the service was outstanding. I also want to point out that the restrooms were really clean and even offered mouthwash. Nice touch!
The food was so good. We had a really nice, light lunch and ordered a few margaritas. My coconut margarita was one of he best I've ever had. Seriously...
We ordered a seafood tostada sampler that was out of this world and so fresh. It offered bold flavors and everything was so beautiful to look at. We also ordered a few shrimp tacos that were perfection. We were both really impressed and all this great food was only $25!
This is definitely one of the fancier places in the neighborhood but the food was top notch and there was a soccer game playing on all the tv's and all the guys working there were going nuts over their team scoring which made the atmosphere a lot more fun. I definitely recommend this place if you find yourself in TJ and are in the mood for some delicious...
Read moreEverything was good until I realized I got food poisoning. I ordered Oysters and Gio Ceviche Tostada. The Oysters were delicious and tasted very fresh. The Gio not so much and I made the mistake of continuing to eat it when I knew it had a bit of a fishy smell (in other words the smell of food on the verge of going bad). Well sure enough I got sick and had diarrhea for 2 days and really bad stomach cramps and pain. Eat at your own risk but because of this experience I will never go back. It's a shame because it has a lot of potential but clearly they aren't doing the right things to keep customers safe.
Update: I was actually sick until Friday the following week. I had to see a doctor and get antibiotics and meds for pain. The manager reached out to me and wants to know the name or description of the waiter who served us. I couldn't remember even if I tried because the service was forgettable. But what does the waiter have to do with food being contaminated? That's clearly the kitchen or supplier not serving fresh seafood or keeping things to temperature. As I said before I won't be going back and I advise you...
Read moreBe careful!!! The store has high pressure sale practice for trying to up selling me food by repeatedly asking me to buy appetizer even I told the server no. Next, the server asked me if I need expense water, I told him no. Then the server tried to fool /scam me to buy expensive water. Specifically, I only asked to have water with no ice, but the server brought me expensive bottle water without notifying me the price. After the server brought the expensive bottle water to me. I knew this might be a scam and asked the server if the water is free. He told me the bottle water would cost $2.25 each. Then, I asked the server to take the water back. The server refused to take the un-open bottle water back, telling me I ordered the water. I talked to one manager, he took the water back, but the server then brought the water back to me table, telling me again I ordered the water. Then, I talked to another manger, then the server finally took the water back. Finally, the server refused to accept the $2 tip I gave to me once I am done with the meal. PS: I did order the water without ice, but I never ordered...
